posting here for traffic...anyone had a difficult teenager? My DD is 13 and has been hard work since age 12 when she started her periods. I'm talking screeching, screaming, moodiness, rudeness, risky behaviour..the whole gambit.. we are dealing with things as they occur, but my sense is that this is her very extreme reaction to her hormonal changes. Can anyone give me some light at the end of the tunnel? To those who have come through to the other side, how many years did it last before they became, well, more human again?!! I'm desperate thanks.

Mine is 17 and I’m still waiting......

Guineapigbridge · 03/03/2020 21:54

12 - 15 is peak horribleness for girls, I think.

HelenaJustina · 03/03/2020 21:54

My Mum says 15 is peak teen girl hideous, and then they v slowly emerge like a butterfly from a chrysalis!

Thebishopofbanterbury · 03/03/2020 21:59

@helenajustina oh please l pray you are right and I only have 2 more years of this!

16 and still waiting.

Thebishopofbanterbury · 03/03/2020 22:01

It's just so...sad. She doesn't seem to have any empathy.

I know you post it here for traffic but there is a great Teenagers section on MN if you want to look there for support from people who understand.

She’ll come back but arm yourself with patience and understanding.
Mine resurfaced at 16. I was lucky she wasn’t rude or disrespectful or violent but some of her friends were (I know this from their mums). Also, don’t be afraid to draw the line every now and then and don’t accept any rude behaviour like swearing, shouting, breaking things etc Unless you do the same, she has no excuse to behave that way, ever.
If there’s any consolation, they are lovely girls when own parents are not around.

Newyearnewarse · 03/03/2020 22:02

Erm….. 19/20

Ponoka7 · 03/03/2020 22:02

My DD was around 17.5 when she got nice again. It coincided with her getting her first proper boyfriend. I don't know if starting the pill helped with her hormones.

SkiingIsHeaven · 03/03/2020 22:03

Ours is 18 and still going. We are betting on 26.

D4rwin · 03/03/2020 22:03

When they leave home.

FATEdestiny · 03/03/2020 22:04

My DD started her periods early - not long after her 10th birthday. By that point she had finished physically maturing, just had some emotional maturing to do.

She was difficult from 9yo-12yo. So until about 2 years after puberty finished.

The good news is, by 13 my DD was a delightful young adult who is always a joy to spend time with.

Thebishopofbanterbury · 03/03/2020 22:05

@branster yes my dd is seen as a lovely girl by her friend's parents and her teachers. It is just me and her dad she treats badly.

My nearly 15 year old DD has been an absolute joy since the second she was born, my nearly 13 year old could start a fight in an empty room and has been exactly the same since she was able to move. I think it makes it easier to deal with the second one because I know it’s a personality thing/

RoseMartha · 03/03/2020 22:08

Sending you a hug as my twelve year old has just finished swearing and hurling insults at me because I said I am not going back in her room unless she deals with four pairs of her knickers with soiled sanitary pads in. Apparently I was being unreasonable and the worst mother on the planet. 🙄 Not helped by me telling her if bad language doesnt stop she will be losing tech time tomorrow.

MrsCat1 · 03/03/2020 22:08

19 and still waiting.....I'm resigned to a long game.

kerkyra · 03/03/2020 22:11

20 and finally calmed down

FATEdestiny · 03/03/2020 22:12

Just to mix up the pot here:

My 14yo son is far worse than his older sister was for screeching, screaming, moodiness, rudeness, risky behaviour... and aggression.

I've got no fucking clue when he is going to grow out if it.

mypoorfurbaby · 03/03/2020 22:13

13 and 11 year old here.
Just had a complete flash back to toddlerdom tonight over dinner with the 13yrs old.

She wants to eat junk and not dinner.
We had a full on act like a toddler be treated like one battle- over 1hr to eat a bowl of soup!

Thebishopofbanterbury · 03/03/2020 22:14

@RoseMartha yes it's such fun when they say it's all our fault!
