posting here for traffic...anyone had a difficult teenager? My DD is 13 and has been hard work since age 12 when she started her periods. I'm talking screeching, screaming, moodiness, rudeness, risky behaviour..the whole gambit.. we are dealing with things as they occur, but my sense is that this is her very extreme reaction to her hormonal changes. Can anyone give me some light at the end of the tunnel? To those who have come through to the other side, how many years did it last before they became, well, more human again?!! I'm desperate thanks.

I think by 17 they're not awful ALL the time.

Thebishopofbanterbury · 03/03/2020 22:17

@FATEdestiny I also have a son of 4, the thought of going through it all again with him in a decade is truly grim. Was hoping boys might be easier ha!!

friends have said that at 17 they are slightly better.. not sure if leaving secondary school helps? maybe having more freedom? Although I know this may not be the case for everyone Sad

That means you’ve done a good job of raising her OP. Smile.
Going out just the two of you for a coffee or a walk etc will build good quality time to help you get through the days with attitudes.

Mine turned into a lovely person when she was 15.

Stampy84 · 03/03/2020 22:27

My mum used to tell me when I was a teenager ‘you’re my daughter so I love you, but I really don’t like you’

I’ve got a 14 year old daughter myself now, and I totally understand what she was saying ..

notthemum · 03/03/2020 22:29

Sorry, I agree with newyearnewarse
19/20
But mine started being horrible at about age 9.
Have some 💐🍫and 🍷
Good luck

I am in much the same boat with my nearly 13 year old- I keep thinking it's too early for this and 'if this is now what the hell is 14 going to look like!'.
Have just started reading 'untangled- guiding teenage girls through the 7 transitions into adulthood' which is helping me to understand it a bit better and realise it's normal!
Will also now head over to the teen boards after suggestion of pp.

TheyDoItOnPurposeLynne · 03/03/2020 22:38

Honestly; when they get happier! I was like that to my mum when I was miserable and my daughter was so rude and spiteful to me when she wasn't happy. She got a boyfriend and a job and somewhere learned to grown up

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/03/2020 22:39

18 but she moved out last summer!

pasanda · 03/03/2020 22:42

Mines just turned 16 and I'm still waiting.....
In fact she's worse lately but I put a lot of it down to hating school, GCSE's etc. I'm praying she chills out when all that is behind her.

junecat · 03/03/2020 22:44

I was a hateful witch towards my mum until I left home at 17. Then I appreciated her :(

Paddy1234 · 03/03/2020 22:45

17.5 and have interludes where she doesn't think the world revolves around her.
She still can be absolutely vile but a glimmer of hope shines through every so often

astericia · 03/03/2020 22:48

17, same as Ponoka7, got her first proper boyfriend, focused at school and is just a changed girl. Feels like a miracle.

toffeeghirl · 03/03/2020 22:50

Definitely agree with those saying approx 17. They do come through it, OP. My dd is 23 now and is my BF. Thanks

BilboBercow · 03/03/2020 23:04

I'm 39 and I'm hoping any day now...

PenelopeFlintstone · 05/03/2020 06:25

My boy is just as bad. Was probably worse 😩

Rumtopf · 05/03/2020 06:32

When she went on the pill to control her dreadful periods in the Feb before her exams so she was 16. After the exam stress finished she was lovely again and we had one of the best family holidays we've ever had since she was little.

Grandmi · 05/03/2020 06:37

My daughter was never too bad at home but was in trouble at school a few times and we had a couple of drinking cheap booze in the park incidents!! She definitely improved dramatically aged 15 and knuckled down with her school work and now is such a lovely, thoughtful human being ! My advice is to pick your battles when it gets tricky 💐

11MrsLuther · 05/03/2020 06:54

16 3/4, slightly better. Swings between totally unreasonable and just mildly so. Has odd moments of being nice!

Sexnotgender · 05/03/2020 11:14

When she went on the pill to control her dreadful periods in the Feb before her exams so she was 16.

The pill turned my 15 year old into an absolute nightmare!! She also takes it for utterly horrendous periods but man she went crazy.

Ended up with the mini pill for her and she’s back to being a relatively reasonable surly teenager 😂

Rumtopf · 05/03/2020 18:56

@sexnotgender yes, sorry I should have said the mini pill. It truly works wonders for my dd.

ClosedTheBlueEyes · 05/03/2020 19:01

I was awful between 12-21. I've since apologised to my mum...

rhowton · 05/03/2020 19:02

When they're no longer teenagers. My mum and I are best friends now. I was vile 13-19 xxx

NemophilistRebel · 05/03/2020 19:06

When they move out and have kids of their own
