AIBU?

Probably petty as hell but AIBU? Diagram included!

Our brown bin was lost/stolen and I have ordered a replacement and waiting for it to come.

DC recently got a large birthday present that came in a tall cardboard box. I have put said box outside propped up against the wall in our back yard whilst I wait for the new bin as there was no where in the house for it and I don't have a car to tip it at the moment.

The yard at the back of our house is owned by us, it's in our title deeds but our neighbours have right of way to access their backdoor (diagram attached!).

My neighbour has taken it upon herself to move this cardboard, more than once, and literally stand it against our back door so it blocks the door/falls into the house whenever you open the door.

I have already explained that I'm waiting for a new bin so I can get rid of it just a few days ago. It's been out there for no more than 5 days.

I get it may be a bit of an eyesore but it is 100% not blocking their access when propped in-between our black bin and wall as per the picture.

As the yard is technically ours, AIBU for 1. Leaving it there until the bin comes and 2. Asking her to bloody leave it alone?! I'd understand if I'd shoved a load of rubbish into the middle of the yard and left it there for months but this is neatly tucked away and I've already explained why it's there!

Probably petty as hell but AIBU? Diagram included!

I want the 2%who are saying YABU to state why because you are 100% not being unreasonable. Your neighbour sounds a pain in the backside.

Put a 3ft gnome inside the box and leave it right in the centre of your yard.

She'd get a bloody shock lifting it to find that creepy bastard gawping at her!

This thread is so funny!
However I would definitely get a permanent security camera on the yard, your neighbour doesn't seem to understand it's not her yard, it's yours.

She should have offered to put it in her bin if it offended her that much. Cheeky mare, she is YANBU.

For everyone telling the op to cut the box up small so it's not in anyone's way, are you not understanding that the yard is OP's not a shared yard. Op can leave whatever she pleases in HER yard and it's got nothing to do with ndn at all!

Report
NoGravyForYou · 04/03/2020 00:38

I second the idea of sitting in it with a door and windows, just have your phone with you in case ndn take a funny turn after you jump out and scare her 🤣

all these take it to the tip, store it in your garage are bloody missing the point it is OPs property and the neighbour only has walk thru access, the OP can stick boxes all over the back yard as long as the neighbour has a direct route/path to the back steps... what next will she dump all your outdoor furniture at your back door too? throw the childrens trampoline over the fence so she doesnt have to walk past it?
The op can store her box where ever she likes and the neighbour can get stuffed, tell her to leave your fucken box alone op

I think I would have to say, "excuse me, I know this is a weird question, but do you keep moving the cardboard box?"

She will either laugh and appear genuinely confused, and you can come back to us with that bigger mystery.

Or she will deny it but look shifty, and you will have successfully tipped her off that you are on to her weirdness, so that she desists from box-tampering immediately.

Or she will say that yes actually she has picked it up a few times after finding it blown elsewhere in the yard, and you can then rest easy.

Op after studying your very professional diagram, could you confirm if the bin on this is just for you or if she uses it too? If so would the cardboard the way depicted in the diagram get in her way carrying rubbish? Hard to say since you’re probably not an architect therefore guessing this isn’t to scale 😆

If it's got damp it can't go in the recycling anyway (no damp cardboard allowed!)

They take damp cardboard in the recycling where I am. I suspect there's not much choice. Although now I'm slightly worried they don't recycle it but just dump it in landfill somewhere.

What on Earth is her issue with it? It’s not like it’s lying in wait for her, just waiting for the chance to leap on her.

With a bit of ingenuity that could be arranged.

Leave it propped where it is and YANBU. I’d say to neighbour, Why do you keep putting it there? What do you expect me to do with it? I HAVE NO BIN AT THE MOMENT?
Your neighbour sounds like an absolute tool. What are they achieving by moving it?!
Just keep putting it back where it was and let them fume. It’s nothing to do with them anyway

No @beatitbarry why doesn't OP get her butler to keep it in the second stable, or the carriage house?

Can you get yourself inside the box?

Cut a small slit so that you can see and wait patiently until she approaches.

As she reaches out her hand you shout "what the hell do you think you are doing?" or maybe just squeal very loudly.

Surely a big box in front of your door is a bigger eyesore to her than it being tucked beside a wheelie bin. She is being a tit.

As an aside, I always leave big boxes to go damp before putting them in the bin as they are easier to fold up then. I've always had my bin collected to can't be a thing in these parts and believe me our bin men don't need an excuse to be petty.

Damp cardboard clogs the recycling machinery - if you check your Council's guidelines for recycling materials, it will say not to put damp cardboard in the recyling bin as it ruins the load.

They don't have time to check the bin contents thoroughly when they pick it up so are hardly likely to refuse it!

I think it's about time to be doing some repairs on that burnt out car in your yard. Make sure find a nice mouldy mattress to kneel on while you are doing the work on the car, and don't forget to keep the car secure with an excitable rottweiler which greets your neighbour everytime she walks near your path (a'la Keeping Up Appearances). Forget the gnomes too, far too smiley, get some scary looking dolls, behead them and throw them around your yard.

We have neighbours who dont like laundry being hung up outside. Apparently they have say over this, despite not paying for the property themselves. Far better to tumble dry and have a negative impact on the environment needlessly.

YANBU. Some people need real shit in their life to worry about don't they?
