Probably petty as hell but AIBU? Diagram included!

Our brown bin was lost/stolen and I have ordered a replacement and waiting for it to come.

DC recently got a large birthday present that came in a tall cardboard box. I have put said box outside propped up against the wall in our back yard whilst I wait for the new bin as there was no where in the house for it and I don't have a car to tip it at the moment.

The yard at the back of our house is owned by us, it's in our title deeds but our neighbours have right of way to access their backdoor (diagram attached!).

My neighbour has taken it upon herself to move this cardboard, more than once, and literally stand it against our back door so it blocks the door/falls into the house whenever you open the door.

I have already explained that I'm waiting for a new bin so I can get rid of it just a few days ago. It's been out there for no more than 5 days.

I get it may be a bit of an eyesore but it is 100% not blocking their access when propped in-between our black bin and wall as per the picture.

As the yard is technically ours, AIBU for 1. Leaving it there until the bin comes and 2. Asking her to bloody leave it alone?! I'd understand if I'd shoved a load of rubbish into the middle of the yard and left it there for months but this is neatly tucked away and I've already explained why it's there!

Probably petty as hell but AIBU? Diagram included!

TheQueef I love that. I could start doing some sort of crazed fire dance/ritual around it just to really ramp things up. It'd be easier if she thought I was a member of some satanic cult than to actually confront her about it, damn anxiety.

Fuss, the gnome is brilliant. I'll check it out.

Just write in massive writing on the box do not fucking move my box

JustBecauseItWorkedForYou · 03/03/2020 20:53

Tear the box into smaller bits and put in her bin. She clearly had an issue with looking at it.. Problem solved. 😉

PettyCardboard · 03/03/2020 20:53

Maybe I'm starting to get attached to my box. Maybe my box will remain there even when the new bin comes. Maybe my box is now a permanent feature of my yard 🤔

DH thinks I'm being petty and he's sick of hearing about the box now. I've not been in work recently though so this is the most excitement I've had for a while.

What else do you have in your yard OP? Is there anything else (such as gnomes, but also garden toys/furniture, garish flower pots (with dead flowers) you could put out there to offend her? Then set up a camera and catch her in the act of moving/disposing of your property, on your property Grin

She's a rude CF

LizzieMacQueen · 03/03/2020 20:57

OP, what was inside the large box? Isn't it wet by now? Wet cardboard is a bugger.

JustBecauseItWorkedForYou · 03/03/2020 20:59

Yes keep it as a feature is a good idea too. Let the dcs do something crafty with it.. Some paint etc.

Tinyhumansurvivalist · 03/03/2020 20:59

I have right of access across the yards of the 2 houses to the left of mine and to be fair it was a pain in the ass to get my bins out because next door has copd and her oxygen cylinders are collected on the same day as the bins so they fill her yard with them and it made getting my bins out impossible... I moved them to the front... Slightly unsightly but next door is lovely, poorly and blind so I not about to complain!
Your diagram doesn't clearly show where her access is, but assuming it is not where the bin is stored then she is being a knob...

Get some penguin bollards to mark out her access and I love the gnome with the chalkboard!!

PettyCardboard · 03/03/2020 21:00

It was a tall shelving/bookcase thing for DCs room, we did their room up for their birthday. It's a bit damp but it's quite well sheltered at the back and it's usually properly wedged in so it's still it's normal boxy shape. Probably doing more damage moving it too and from my back door!

DontCallMeShitley · 03/03/2020 21:00

Can you tie it to something? Make it nicely prominent and impossible to move quickly.

Itwasntme1 · 03/03/2020 21:01

I would have to ask her if she understands it’s your land and you are allowed to put whatever you want in it. She simply has a right to walk over it.

I would express false concern that she doesn’t understand and perhaps thinks the yard belongs to her😊

SirVixofVixHall · 03/03/2020 21:01

Does she understand that the yard is yours, and she is only allowed to walk across to get to her door ?

PettyCardboard · 03/03/2020 21:02

TinyHuman, that sounds a pain. Her bins aren't stored in our yard though so it's not that.

There's steps up to it on the diagram and it's sort of open from the top of the steps, no fence or gate, just open at the top of the steps.

I cross posted with Itwasntme sorry.

ittakes2 · 03/03/2020 21:05

Sorry she sounds a nutter!

PettyCardboard · 03/03/2020 21:06

I think DH may actually divorce me if he comes home to 'guess what happened with the box today' one more time.

youknowitmakessensedunnit · 03/03/2020 21:07

Why dont you just put it in the garage until it's collected?

PettyCardboard · 03/03/2020 21:09

YouKnow, I don't have a garage.

AudTheDeepMinded · 03/03/2020 21:10

What you need is a 'Garda Olaf' I believe.

MaryShelley1818 · 03/03/2020 21:11

YADNBU, I'd call her out on it and ask her directly what her point in moving it is? She's relying on you being too polite x

BoldRoo · 03/03/2020 21:12

I think I would have to rip the box into tiny pieces and post it through her letterbox.

BeatItBarry · 03/03/2020 21:12

Sorry I'm chuckling at the assumption that all houses must have a garage. No question, just 'put it in the garage'.

altiara · 03/03/2020 21:14

LTB - petty box wars are very interesting!

PettyCardboard · 03/03/2020 21:17

altiara you're right, I just don't feel very supported right now. Surely this is what they meant by 'for better or worse'.
