Hi all,
My gran has always used a hot brush to give her hair volume, and I use one too. I recommended one to a colleague, as she said my hair looked great, and she was horrified and said that they're really old fashioned and her mother used them in the 70s. I was absolutely aghast at her being so astounded! Please tell me I've not turned into Vera Duckworth at the hands of a hot brush...

Your colleague is an idiot isn’t she? Your hair looks great but the method of getting there is old-fashioned so she’s ‘horrified’?

I am bemused.

hellcarryingahandbag · 03/03/2020 14:59

@ActualHornist, she's full of remarks about everything but when you get used to her, she's very likeable.

What hot brush do you use? I so missed my gas Braun one Sad BUT have discovered the Revlon One Step and ye Gods it's incredible!

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 03/03/2020 16:50

I use the revlon one step brush which is very like a hot brush and a good few of us in my office also use it

HollysBush · 03/03/2020 16:59

Never used one, but if it does the job! Is she a bit of a bully?

TheFluffiestCat · 03/03/2020 16:59

I had a 'turning into my mother' moment when I discovered the Revlon magic contraption, but it is quite different from the one she uses. My mum is 73 and basically has hair like the Queen. Her hot brush is therefore much thinner and I don't think it blows out hot air. I'm fast approaching 40 and my hair is long and staying that way.

dontgobaconmyheart · 03/03/2020 17:02

Oh dear. Not sure I'd even have given it much though OP, in the nicest possible way it's not much of an event.

You only need to visit Boots or the supermarket to realise there are plenty for sale in a similar vein and that therefore people obviously buy them. It's hardly any different from using a hairdryer and a brush intellectually is it -heat and a brush- so it's hard to imagine she is 'horrified' if she has much about her. Good shop she is likeable because people who need to remark as such all the time are usually hard work.

Katherine2626 · 03/03/2020 17:04

Does it matter what you are using if your hair looks great? My hairdresser, who is absolutely a fashion icon around here, and looks amazing, told me that she loves Carmen rollers - she said there is nothing to beat them.
Do you think this person was jealous of how good your hair looks and wants you to stop using the brush?

hellcarryingahandbag · 03/03/2020 17:17

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor it's this one. I bought it in Boots on a whim as I wanted one and thought it looked like a great deal. Ignore the reviews, I've got absolutely nothing but praise for it.

@HollysBush, she isn't a bully, in fact I would consider her a good friend, but she is very blunt.

Hands up. I still use Braun gas one. Really useful because you ca n change it from Brush to tongs. The only down side was flying out to America and having to rummage through my case to show check in ,as I didn't know if it would be ok for the gas canister . I'm sure they thought it was something else Grin

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/03/2020 17:48

Mine fell apart, it was held together by sellotape for at least 3 years. Grin

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/03/2020 17:50

Expensive on eBay!

WorraLiberty · 03/03/2020 17:53

'Horrified' 'Aghast' and 'Astounded'

All in a post about a hot brush Grin Grin

YANBU, I used to love my hot brush in the 80s.

Is this the one PP's have mentioned? It's currently in my Amazon basket but I've not taken the plunge.

For using one of these?
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/03/2020 20:16

Take the plunge, it's incredible ! I was worried as the Big Hair didn't work on me at all but this is AMAZING. You need to rough dry your hair until it is just about dry then use the Revlon.

DameOfGroans · 03/03/2020 22:32

Thank you!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/03/2020 23:54

Update if you buy it!

LellyMcKelly · 04/03/2020 00:01

I got a Christina Aguilera one in Lidl’s Isle of Shite before Christmas for £17.99 on a whim and it’s AMAZING! It dries my long Layered hair into glossy waves in about 10 minutes. I leave the house these days like a supermodel in a shampoo advert.

DishingOutDone · 04/03/2020 00:16

I want one now!

MrsToothyBitch · 04/03/2020 00:20

They're still in regular use in the ladies changing/locker room at my London club! We have a couple that live there and they're very popular! I'm a blow dryer girl myself but I'm slowly becoming tempted to try one out. Just do whatever works best for your hair Smile.
