Not the bloody fridge! Just had to hunt it down in the kitchen for my turkey dinosaurs and it’s in the fridge!

YABU: should be in the fridge
YANBU: someone in your house needs talking to

it says so on the bottle

I have to say I’ve never read the bottle.

I'm picturing OP keeping frozen prawns in the cupboard and wondering why she gets ill a lot.

All these labels that say fridge are rubbish, Cupboard is fine, these are preserves, not fresh food, I have never had ketchup or may go off, or pickles and other preserves. They are full of chemicals anyway, just covering their backs

TheFastandTheCurious · 02/03/2020 14:40

I've always kept it in the cupboard, it's never gone bad

DGRossetti · 02/03/2020 14:43

Been keeping opened ketchup (and mustard, and eggs for that matter) in the cupboard for years, and (sadly Grin) I'm still here. We can go months between bottles too.

puds11 · 02/03/2020 14:44

I know how to keep prawns Hmm I wouldn’t liken shellfish to bloody ketchup!

Literally everything is full of chemicals.

puds11 · 02/03/2020 14:44

Not sure it lasts long enough here to go off.

You keep opened eggs in the cupboard? That is a strong constitution you have.

dustibooks · 02/03/2020 14:46

I've never kept ketchup or brown sauce in the fridge. No issues here.

In any case, we buy ketchup in glass bottles instead of plastic whenever possible, so it would be a job to get that out of the bottle when it's stiff with cold!

'Fridge because the sugar in it breeds bacteria that starts in the middle of the bottle'

So why is sugar used as a preservative in, for example, jams?

Whichoneofyoudidthat · 02/03/2020 14:47

Cupboard. You are not alone.

KatharinaRosalie · 02/03/2020 14:48

Unless you really eat the entire bottle in the matter of days, fridge. Believe me, it will get mouldy in the cupboard. I have successfully demonstrated this to people who believed the same as you by cutting the bottle open.

TabbyMumz · 02/03/2020 14:48

Cupboard. Never waste fridge space.

Montsti · 02/03/2020 14:49

100% fridge

PoolsOfSunshineThroughTheGlass · 02/03/2020 14:50

What's an opened egg... A cracked egg?

You're actually not supposed to keep eggs in the fridge are you? Unopened ones... Although I don't know why except for the germs on the shells/ box...

Nonnymum · 02/03/2020 14:50

Once it's been opened you should keep it in the fridge. That's what it says on the bottle anyway.

NeverGotMyPuppy · 02/03/2020 14:50

Cupboard. Done us well so far.

LaurieMarlow · 02/03/2020 14:51

Believe me, it will get mouldy in the cupboard.

All of my life I've kept ketchup in the cupboard. A bottle lasts several weeks.

I've never seen any mold. I've never been ill.

So I'm sticking to my way, thanks all the same.

Cinderemma · 02/03/2020 14:51

YABU Fridge!!

YouFellAsleeep · 02/03/2020 14:51

Fridge, because it says on the bottle.

EngagedAgain · 02/03/2020 14:51

I never keep ketchup or brown sauce in the fridge. I do prefer glass bottles too as pp says, especially for brown sauce as don't use it often ( wonder about chemicals leeching in over time). I keep it in the coolest, darkest and dryest place in kitchen.

Nonnymum · 02/03/2020 14:54

why is sugar used as a preservative in, for example, jams?
It acts as a preservative as long as it is airtight. Once the air gets to it it can go off. I keep opened jam, marmalade etc in the fridge too

NeverGotMyPuppy · 02/03/2020 14:54

Love the insistence that it will get mouldy despite several posters saying their doesnt!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 02/03/2020 14:55

Fridge!
