To not know the difference between ombré and balayage?!

Can anyone help? I bloody hate hairdressers usually after many horrendous visits to others in the past.

Have finally found a great salon and trying to book online but haven’t got a clue whether the treatment I want is balayage or ombré.

I’ve never had either before so completely baffled. My hair is similar colour to the picture I want it like (dark brown).

Will attach a pic if anyone can help me out, cheers.

I think that's both? Balayage is where - I THINK! - they paint the colour on freestyle, by hand, for a natural look. And ombré means it starts half way down the hair.

But I'm sounding very confident for someone who only first had highlights ever today (just now!) at the ripe old age of 1 million. So maybe don't take this as gospel.

PawPawNoodle · 02/03/2020 11:14

That's a balayage.

mauvaisereputation · 02/03/2020 11:14

Yes, I agree with Anuvva. Balayage is the technique of painting on highlights with a brush, freehand. Ombre refers to the style of having hair starting at one colour (probably the natural colour) at the root and then blending down to another colour at the tips. An ombre look is achieved using balayage.

I don't know the difference but does anyone else think they look like bad roots?

Thanks guys, nice to know I’m not the only one confused by this all lol

Ombre is the graduation of colour
Balayage is hand painting the parts where light should naturally hit

Spidey66 · 02/03/2020 15:51

I think they look like the roots need doing too. Grin

My hair is highlighted, instead of getting a balayage I'll just grow out my highlights!

MrsToothyBitch · 02/03/2020 15:54

Isn't ombre the style & balayage the technique used to achieve it?

singandwing · 02/03/2020 15:59

Balayage sounds like horse feed and not something you'd want doing to your hair. Ombre is a fancy name for colour at the ends of your hair.
