About perfumed toilet paper?

Shoppingwithmother · 01/03/2020 14:40

Just wanted to know people’s opinions - are many people allergic/sensitive to perfumed toilet paper?

Also, would you expect that a toilet paper marketed in the UK as particularly kind to skin and helps avoid irritation to sensitive skin, would be likely to be perfumed?

Just wanted some people’s thoughts as I have recently had a problem and wanted to check whether IABU!

Took me months to work out why i kept getting UTIs, until i realised we had shea cocoa toilet paper. Even Aldi's bland stuff does it to me, so we use Shades by ASDA. No issues since.
So, yes, i do think whatever they spray onto the paper makes a difference.

GinDrinker00 · 01/03/2020 15:47

Yep. Perfumes toilet paper is Satan’s toilet paper for sure.

Arthritica · 01/03/2020 15:48

Hellish stuff

Plexie · 01/03/2020 15:52

I didn't even know perfumed toilet paper existed. Why, just why?!

But if I saw a toilet paper marketed for sensitive skin then no, I wouldn't expect it to be perfumed.

Rosalo · 01/03/2020 15:53

I love Coconut toilet roll. Makes the loo smell like holidays.

nimsem2 · 01/03/2020 15:58

I can't use it without ending up with cystitis. Confused

Purpleartichoke · 01/03/2020 16:09

Massively allergic to the stuff. Lots of people will also get skin irritations. Putting it anywhere for other than self use is incredibly irresponsible.

DecemberSnow · 01/03/2020 16:10

Very sensitive to it

AhoyMrBeaver · 01/03/2020 16:12

The ones I have now are scented, sort of a baby talc smell. I've had no reaction to it and we've had them for weeks. I quite like them.

MyCrap · 01/03/2020 16:12

Yip ... one way ticket to thrush for me. Both the toilet paper with moisturiser and the fragranced wipes are guaranteed to have me in agony.

Smidge001 · 01/03/2020 16:13

Can't stand perfumed toilet paper. I actually think it should be banned.

Alsohuman · 01/03/2020 16:14

They make perfumed loo roll?

WatchingFromTheWings · 01/03/2020 16:14

I can't use any paper that's scented or coloured. Make my bits feel like they're on fire! My 'D'M would insist on buying paper that coordinated with the bathrooms....one was green, the other blue. Only used white since I left home!

SconNotScone · 01/03/2020 16:15

I have issues if I use either the scented one, or coloured paper. Plain white only here!

Elouera · 01/03/2020 16:16

I had a coconut fragrance one once, but after a day, could no longer smell it in the room. Could just smell it if I sniffed the roll, which IMO is just an odd thing to do Hmm

If you want a nice smell in the bathroom, use a diffuser or candle.

BogOffJanuary · 01/03/2020 16:19

Repeated thrush. Never again.

Goldenbunnywithnocarrot · 01/03/2020 16:23

Absolute agony if dh buys it by mistake, complete skin irritation. I avoid at all costs as it can take weeks to get over the irritation.

avocadoze · 01/03/2020 16:25

Perfumes loo roll? It’s like we didn’t have enough planet-killing consumption already. I bet it doesn’t disintegrate as fast as the plain stuff.

Shoppingwithmother · 01/03/2020 16:27

Glad it’s not just me - it was Andrex Skin Kind that I bought, and as it is marketed as being good for sensitive skin and “to avoid irritation,” it never entered me head that it would be perfumed.

Only realised after a few days of burning pain what the cause was.

I complained about it to them and they said it would be “highly unusual” for an allergy or irritation to be attributed solely to toilet paper.

I didn’t think it was unusual at all to be sensitive to perfumed toilet paper - especially for women- so I thought I’d check it isn’t just me.

I didn't know such a thing existed.

Mumthedogsbeensick · 01/03/2020 16:52

I thought it was just the tube that was scented not the actual paper. That explains why I feel so itchy then!

outofyourhand · 01/03/2020 16:54

I got some coconut oil toilet paper from Ocado on offer and I swear it burnt my minge off. I had the worst case of thrush I've ever had. I can remember the frantic itching and burning as if it was yesterday Confused

DramaAlpaca · 01/03/2020 16:58

There was almost a riot amongst the women at work when someone accidentally bought scented toilet roll for the ladies' loo.

it might have made its way into the gents' toilet instead so that it got used Wink

ALongHardWinter · 01/03/2020 17:27

I have used it without, thankfully, any problems, when I've bought it by accident on s few occasions, and didn't have any choice! Some brands seem to try and hide the word 'scented,' or 'perfumed' ,and I've not realised until I've unwrapped the bloody stuff. What I have noticed though,is that if the unscented packets are next to scented packets, they can absorb the scent, even through 2 layers of plastic. Poundland do a decent quality pack of four rolls, but it's often sitting next to cinnamon (I am not kidding) scented packs. When I opened my unscented pack,a string waft of cinnamon came out!

BanSprouts · 01/03/2020 17:37

My DM always buys scented toilet roll, it gives me cystitis. Horrible stuff!
