To use their toilet when I’m cleaning?

Hoohaahoo · 29/02/2020 19:22

I’m a cleaner and often have very full days where I am going from house to house with no break.
I try to keep hydrated but this means I have to use my clients toilet sometimes. I try and use it and then clean it after.

Would you be annoyed by this? Would you want asking first?

As your employer surely it's their responsibility to provide you with welfare facilities such as toilets

This.

And it’s important. If they do say anything, then you push it back, workplace regulations etc,etc you must have welfare facilities.

It’s something i used to deal with a lot and in my sector you can very easily shut a place down for inadequate welfare. As a result I had to be a bit toilet obsessed (much to colleagues amusement) I can’t quote the law, anymore, it’s been a while, and we were working to some specific regulations that don’t always apply in your situation.

My cleaner uses the toilet when I'm in and …… leaves the door wide open Grin

Londonmummy66 · 29/02/2020 20:52

I'm appalled that anyone would have a problem with their cleaner using their loo. My lovely housekeeper uses mine and makes herself tea/coffee or has a soft drink and I'm really cross to think that anyone would not allow this.

Durgasarrow · 29/02/2020 20:54

Trying to imagine the horrible person who would object to this.

Khione · 29/02/2020 20:56

I had to let brickies and labourers use mine, on a Saturday morning, after curry (when they only wanted a pee they did it outside - their choice). Later electricians, carpenters, plasterers etc - people are human; we all have to go.

MitziK · 29/02/2020 20:57

Would they rather you pissed in the kitchen sink or over the living room carpet/back door step?

OK, a twenty five minute leisurely dump with a paper, stinking the en suite out and then still leaving at the usual time would be unreasonable, but a standard/necessary visit is perfectly normal.

MaryShelley1818 · 29/02/2020 21:01

I wouldn't object to anyone using my toilet.

AnnaFiveTowns · 29/02/2020 21:05

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest but my cleaner always refuses a coffee when she's at my house because she says her next client won't let her use the toilet without asking first! This client actually told her to ask if she needed the toilet!

whyamidoingthis · 29/02/2020 21:08

@kazaroo0 - As your employer surely it's their responsibility to provide you with welfare facilities such as toilets!

Most cleaners are self-employed and so area not employees. That said, pretty crappy (pun intended) to begrudge your cleaner use of the toilet, particularly as she will presumably clean it afterwards if necessary.

bouncydog · 29/02/2020 21:14

We believe in treating anyone who comes to our home with respect. They are welcome to use our toilet as long as they leave it how they find it (which is always spotless). DH has worked in homes where they have forbidden workers from using their toilets - he’s come and said he wouldn’t use it anyway as it was filthy🤢🤢. Says more about the individual than the worker imho.

PyongyangKipperbang · 29/02/2020 21:18

Wouldnt bother me in the slightest but being in a service industry, I have seen what utter wankers people can be so wouldnt be at all surprised at people being pissed off about it. The same people who get wanky about the builder having a poo :o Wink

5zeds · 29/02/2020 21:18

Of course you can use the toilet.

ddl1 · 29/02/2020 21:22

So long as you left it clean (which as the cleaner you obviously would!), I wouldn't mind a bit. That's what a loo is for!

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 29/02/2020 21:26

My cleaner asks every time, despite me always telling her to feel free. I’ve also told her to help her self to tea, coffee etc.

AdriannaP · 29/02/2020 21:32

Wouldn’t bother me. I mean what else are you supposed to do if you need the toilet.

As above, use the loo and make yourself a tea or coffee. Have a biscuit during your break! Some people are strange! What are you supposed to do? Hold it in until you get home?

noisehelp · 29/02/2020 21:45

I don't see the issue. You used the toilet and then cleaned it. I can't believe someone would have a problem with that. Confused

Were you in there for hours? Was there a horrific lingering smell? Did you use an entire toilet roll? Otherwise YANBU.

OneHanded · 29/02/2020 21:50

Enough time to lurk outside the loo, judging your cleaner? Enough time time to clean your own fucking loo...

AlexaAmbidextra · 29/02/2020 21:54

I would, however, think it a bit cheeky to use it after you've already cleaned it

Why? Do you clean your toilet after each and every usage? I bet you don’t.

tryingtoloseweightnow · 29/02/2020 21:57

This wouldn't bother me at all. I'd expect my cleaner to need the loo whilst she's at mine.
She comes after her school run so I've told her to help herself to a cup of tea if she likes too, not sure if she has or not.
Place is always spotless when I get home either way.

Cherrysoup · 29/02/2020 22:17

Extraordinary! If you need the toilet, you go. Are clients really bothered? I find that so strange.

Bubblemonkey · 29/02/2020 22:19

If ya need a piss, ya need a piss 🤨

gamerwidow · 29/02/2020 22:25

I would feel ashamed if I had made my cleaner feel so unwelcome she couldn't feel confident to use my toilet.

PixieDustt · 29/02/2020 22:28

No I wouldn't expect you to ask to go to the toilet Confused
