To use their toilet when I’m cleaning?

Hoohaahoo · 29/02/2020 19:22

I’m a cleaner and often have very full days where I am going from house to house with no break.
I try to keep hydrated but this means I have to use my clients toilet sometimes. I try and use it and then clean it after.

Would you be annoyed by this? Would you want asking first?

I think asking to use a lavatory is ridiculous unless you’re a stranger knocking at the door.
The idea of worrying about it is also a bit excessive. If they genuinely raised eyebrows then I’d look for a new client.
Do they make you a tea or anything?

WoollyMollyMonkey · 29/02/2020 20:12

Your home is the cleaner’s workplace - they should be provided with ‘facilities’ in their workplace!

Canyousewcushions · 29/02/2020 20:13

I think I'd feel a bit weird about a cleaner using my en suite if I had one (either a cleaner or an en suite that it- entirely hypothetical scenario for me!!), but would be fine with them using a family bathroom or a downstairs toilet.

Not sure why I'd be more uncomfortable about the hypothetical en suite as I'd expect a hypothetical cleaner to include in their workload, but somehow using it would feel more of an invasion of privacy.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 29/02/2020 20:14

Wooly not true, but it is nonetheless a ridiculous thing for them to be upset about.

BigChocFrenzy · 29/02/2020 20:14

Fine so long as you clean it afterwards, even if you had cleaned it earlier

superram · 29/02/2020 20:15

I’ve told my cleaner to make a brew, I don’t think she ever does but she’s there for 3 hours so why not.

MarkingTimeIm59 · 29/02/2020 20:15

Really? 🙁

AGoodPodcastAndANiceCupOfTea · 29/02/2020 20:16

They sound ghastly. I would be upset at the thought of my cleaner not using the loo if they needed to do so. Also, why aren't they even there at all? We always go out when our cleaner comes - no one wants to be overlooked as they work.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 29/02/2020 20:18

How can anyone object to that?

Bonkers.

pinksoda35 · 29/02/2020 20:21

I am a cleaner and I know what you mean..If the people are in I will go but like you I go quietly and discreetly.
When they are not in!!! well.......enough said

minipie · 29/02/2020 20:22

I used the toilet at a clients house and they were stood outside when I came out. Eyebrows firmly raised but they didn’t say anything about it.

That’s very weird of them and pretty rude.

What a weirdo toilet lurker!

Catapillarsruletheworld · 29/02/2020 20:24

No reasonable person would object to this.

😳 Thats really weird. I’m sorry they made you feel uncomfortable. They’re definitely the odd ones here. Along with the 4% who voted YABU. 😬

tenlittlecygnets · 29/02/2020 20:31

Of course I wouldn’t mind! Your client is bonkers.

moOmOoMooo · 29/02/2020 20:32

I bet your cleaner does a fantastic job. I've cleaned homes where I wasn't offered even a glass of water. These are homes I've had 8 hours to clean (6 stories in chelsea). Don't miss those clients at all

LookBackInIngres · 29/02/2020 20:33

I read Lewis Hamilton went bananas when a pilot of his private jet used the only toilet on board. Get a grip ffs. Even just on a purely selfish level, it’s obvious a relaxed and happy captain Is a good thing. And on a purely humN level it really sucks.

Skittlesss · 29/02/2020 20:34

So they’re ok to let you clean up after them... but raise their brow at you having a pee!

StrumpersPlunkett · 29/02/2020 20:35

I would expect our cleaner to use our loo.
We have already talked about her eating her lunch in the car outside her next client. She now stays here and has a cuppa with her lunch.

HomerSimpsonSmilingPolitely · 29/02/2020 20:35

You shouldn't need to ask permission to use the toilet, I think it's just a given that you can do that whilst cleaning someone's house. Anyone who has a problem with that is being an arse. I would, however, think it a bit cheeky to use it after you've already cleaned it... but i wouldn't say anything.

20Newnames · 29/02/2020 20:38

I always make the cleaner a cup of tea when she comes, we chat for a couple of minutes then I go to my office and leave her to it. It would never occur to me that she would not use the toilet if she needed it.

I find it very odd these people who are fussy about who uses the toilet. As long as they don’t leave it messy I don’t care. It is a basic need and when you need to go you need to go 🤷‍♀️

bmbonanza · 29/02/2020 20:40

Cant see why anyone would worry about you using the loo?

moOmOoMooo · 29/02/2020 20:40

What I've learned from being a cleaner is that the rich a a bunch of fuckers, too up themselves to be reasonable human beings. They're also the worst tippers.

My favourite clients were by far the middle class/small apartment owners. Very humble, polite, friendly and always ask you how you've been. I clean for a disabled lady in her 2 bed flat and shes the nicest ever. We even chat when I clean in her kitchen. Customers like that really make the job pleasant.

Skyejuly · 29/02/2020 20:41

I've bee cleaner and yes some people are strange. I use loo but always the general downstairs one
I wouldnt use en suite etc

readingismycardio · 29/02/2020 20:43

Absolutely, why not?! You're a human being who has needs, and for sure, as a cleaner you'll leave the place spotless anyway. We leave tea, water & snacks for our cleaner Smile
