To refuse to take the Watchtower and send Jehova's Witnesses away with parish magazine?

They said: hey, you've got to take a Watchtower, it was a deal!

But I welshed on it.

Was I unreasonable, and what do other people do when the God Squad come to their door trying to sell God to them?

OMG UQD I am crying. PMSL.

SueBaroo · 06/09/2007 13:36

To be honest, they wouldn't have any opinion of the wasting time thing. It would all count toward the total amount of hours of 'ministry' they have to put in a month.

UnquietDad · 06/09/2007 13:37

They aren't on commission then? 1 recruit = up 10 places in the Hot 144,000 mate?

HorseyWoman · 06/09/2007 13:39

My stomach hurts!

SueBaroo · 06/09/2007 13:39

No, but they do have different grades. If you're an ordinary JW, it's a few hours a month, but you can also choose to be an auxilliary pioneer, or a fulltime pioneer which is what they call the really dedicated door-knockers. They make a commitment to do many more hours, and they record it all.

It's like an accountant's dream religion...

HorseyWoman · 06/09/2007 13:41

Oh pmsl

Lawrene8 · 06/09/2007 13:41

Although only 144,000 go to heaven the rest of us get to live in a paradise earth that the 144,000 spend the rest of eternity working to create - so really can't see the benefits of joining myself!

Howdydoody · 06/09/2007 13:42

Horseywoman - havent you ever just said No Thanks to for e.g. Avon, and then changed your mind? I know i have often said No to something and then been pleased the seller tried a little harder with me than taking my first answer. (Saved ££s on Sky this way LOL)

And Atila if they wont tell you all those things, that most of us know anyway - how do you know them?

SueBaroo · 06/09/2007 13:45

I'm presuming attila means that they won't introduce those things into a first conversation.
But I'm a mainstream Christian, and I'm not generally in the habit of starting conversations with strangers all about the subtle hierarchy of roles within the trinity.

Caroline1852 · 06/09/2007 13:45

I assume that it is possible to be a JW and an accountant [shudders emoticon]?

HorseyWoman · 06/09/2007 13:46

Ummm, no I don't think so. Avon's a little different to JW, though, so I don't know. I am quite happy being an 'evil' Christian and have been since 1983 (when I was born). Depends if they used the gas bill argument, though; that might sway me.

Caroline1852 · 06/09/2007 13:47

Or an actuary and a JW - now there's a thought.

HorseyWoman · 06/09/2007 13:48

You're not trying to 'sell' your faith to strangers, though, are you Sue?

SueBaroo · 06/09/2007 13:48

Prince is a JW. Can you imagine him knocking on your door? You'd look through the peep-hole, and you'd think there was no-one there..

HorseyWoman · 06/09/2007 13:50

PMSL

SueBaroo · 06/09/2007 13:51

HW, well, I'm a Christian, so it's part of my beliefs to be a good example and to be prepared to talk about my faith with others.

But even granted that, the finer aspects of the dating of the book of Job, or who wrote Hebrews wouldn't be the most sensible topic to pick if I was talking to someone about my faith...

fleacircus · 06/09/2007 13:52

I don't say that I am Christian.

I believe Jesus is not God.

I deny that God is a Trinity.

I deny that Jesus rose bodily from the dead.

Blimey, Attila, I'm halfway there!

UnquietDad · 06/09/2007 13:52

Would like to nominate SueBaroo for QUOTE OF THE WEEK!!!

UnquietDad · 06/09/2007 13:52

For the Prince thing, I mean.

SueBaroo · 06/09/2007 13:53
Grin
Howdydoody · 06/09/2007 13:55

See now if you had all taken up their offers and gone to their get together at Twickenham you would have seen him!

sparklygothkat · 06/09/2007 14:03

I have to just say that there is a few JWs who post on this site. Please don't mock them

littlemisssensible · 06/09/2007 14:07

There are a few accountants too, but we're used to being mocked!

SueBaroo · 06/09/2007 14:11

Dh is an accountant. He also has an anorak, but he only wears it when he visits bus depots to log the bus numbers...

HorseyWoman · 06/09/2007 14:11

LOL.
