The stairs if our house have two huge walls at either side and the space looks huge. DH thinks it looks ok as it is but I think it looks awful and bare!

AIBU to think it needs something?! I suggested a dado rail at least but DH said that was incredibly 90s but look how big the fucking wall is!

We have put cupboards / wardrobes over the stairs. Makes a world of difference to the small DCs room. All hanging clothes, fancy dress, board games etc stored out of sight. We have lighting overhead and the wall space is a gallery of family photos in frames.

WildCherryBlossom just wondering how you get things in and out of the wardrobes and cupboard? They must be very high!

WildCherryBlossom · 02/03/2020 05:03

I didn't explain it very well @newhopewithanyluck the cupboard's doors are in the DCs room but they extend out from DCs room to fill some of the void over the stairs.

DC room on left, cupboards built out over the stairs to fill the void. I plan to put up picture on the facing surface at some stage.

Shelves with flowers/ornaments
Mirror
Canvas
Paint/wallpaper as a feature wall

We got a really cool long-drop, multi layered light/chandelier type thing and a funky mirror on the wall opposite the stairs. At work so don't have pics though. You could also try a funky full-wall mural (back & white NY skyline or something) with a nice light grey paint on the side walls.

The shadows from the shades on a light like that would create a pattern on the walls to break it up a bit.
