iPad or laptop and which one?

Looking at investing in a new laptop or iPad as both of mine are so old. I don’t use either anymore as mostly use the internet on my phone. But looking at getting a new one , to have access to word, publisher etc. I think I’d prefer a laptop but no idea where to start looking as there are so many! Any ideas?

If you need it in an office capacity or for making documents a laptop is more efficient. For internet or portability an ipad ( with keyboard for writing at length or note taking)

I did most of my first term of university with just an iPad pro (and keyboard attached to it) but found I needed a laptop more and more. No access to Publisher on an iPad as well - my iPad is godly for some things - I'm currently doing an assignment where I have to draw lots of anatomical cross sections and the apple pencil is amazing for that, but I did end up needing a laptop in the end.

You don't want my laptop as a recommendation - it's huge, heavy and the ugliest thing going (it's a gaming machine)

How much are you looking to spend?

Id think about what you want to use it for, then spend some time browsing review websites (techradar etc).

You can get a month's trial of Which? for £1. Ive just done that for something else. Incidentally Which? gives the Microsoft Surface 3 an 85% score; that costs £1k. They suggest three 'key rivals' - two are also £1k. Third is the Dell Inspiron 14 5490: 69% and £649.
