... he took each crate from the driver and proceeded to tip all the contents onto the kitchen floor!

Utter bell end

Am I the only one that doesn’t see the point of unpacking the crates to bags to then unpack again, talk about giving yourself loads of work. Each to thier own I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️

No you're not. I just carry the crates through to the kitchen and empty them out on the worktop and floor. It really doesn't take long even when I have big (£100+) deliveries.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 29/02/2020 15:29

I sort as I unpack on to the floor or bags. Fridge stuff together, frozen, fruit and veg so it is easy to put away.

PumpkinP · 29/02/2020 15:32

I don’t like them coming in so feel that there is really no other option than packing it into bags and then unpacking it again. And I do find it really long personally

We'd never do that! DH would be horrified! He deals with online shop. He takes each crate and unloads contents briskly item by item onto kitchen island then gives crate back. Once all unloaded and driver gone, he puts it all away.

Easy.

Hagbeth · 29/02/2020 17:30

Don’t you get bags anymore?

Purpleartichoke · 29/02/2020 17:37

Part of the reason I get groceries delivered is because bending over to grab things on lower shelves hurts my back. Food on the floor would be agony.

Our shop gets put on the counter in the kitchen. It’s the whole point of getting it brought to the house.

swampytiggaa · 29/02/2020 17:39

My delivery driver carries the crates into the kitchen. They often help put the stuff on the worktop too.

isabellerossignol · 29/02/2020 17:41

I wouldn't care as long as he didn't expect me to pick it up.

Owngoal77 · 29/02/2020 17:51

I loved the bags tbh. The way they would come packed in a bag for frozen things, another for refrigerated, one for shampoos etc - made unpacking so much easier. I would pay for reusable bags, like the ones I use in the supermarket, if that were available. I usually click and collect and just lifting everything from the crate into the boot give some a sore back (and I don't have a bad back as such).
I know plastic bags are an issue but the stuff I buy is covered in unnecessary packaging usually anyway. I'd prefer less of that and a bag for it all to come in.

One word for you Owngoal77 Ocado

JigsawsAreInPieces · 29/02/2020 19:28

We take the crates through, empty them on the work tops and give them back. We then pack it away in the cupboards once the driver has gone.

Waveysnail · 29/02/2020 19:28

Driver brings them into kitchen and they help get all stuff out of box onto the side of table

Owngoal77 · 01/03/2020 01:07

kingkuta you got me all excited there for a moment - Ocado don't deliver in Scotland! Sob.
Delivery tonight - guy set crates in our hall, we carried through and put on table/work tops, returned crates. I did have to stop dh who was starting to put things in cupboards as we go. Everything was really wet though - I know it's raining outside, but surely shouldn't be raining in their vans!

Newmumatlast · 01/03/2020 01:17

I tip mine out onto the sofa save for stuff like eggs which I take out and put to one side. I feel for the drivers working to tight schedules and they don't need to wait for me to neatly put things on the side - it doesn't take me long to put things away from being on the sofa.

timeaftertime79 · 01/03/2020 17:27

I do this, much easier! If it’s a huge shop then I put big suitcases by the door to tip them in.

PeapodBurgundy · 01/03/2020 17:37

I transfer to bags at the doorstep as I can't lift the crates into the kitchen, most of them are far too heavy for me. It's easier to get it from the doorstep to the kitchen in bags than loose. Less work, not more.

happydaze22 · 01/03/2020 17:41

We just keep the crates and give them back on the next delivery.

Bluesrunthegame · 01/03/2020 17:55

I'm about to get my first delivery from Morrisons as they still deliver in bags.

DesLynamsMoustache · 01/03/2020 18:13

My DH did this today and I asked if he'd been reading MN Grin

MacBlank · 01/03/2020 18:16

This story is far too short to comment properly

MacBlank · 01/03/2020 18:23

One thing.in life (well TBH, LOTS OF THINGS!) REALLY REALLY REALLY pisses me off... DOUBLE HANDLING

The art of touching an object twice. So instead of placing on the counter, to then put away, when you could pack the crate properly to begin with, and thus take the correct crate to the correct cupboard/fridge or freezer.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 01/03/2020 18:28

The pickers in store barely have time to go round and pick the items never mind them then being out into the "correct" crates. What one household keeps together, another household would spread over different cupboards. They can't possibly do that for every order.

DonnaDarko · 01/03/2020 18:33

We do this for anything that won't break easily. That way the poor driver is not standing around waiting for us.
