Would this piss you off ... ‘D’H and food delivery

... he took each crate from the driver and proceeded to tip all the contents onto the kitchen floor!

Utter bell end

Mumofone1902 · 29/02/2020 11:59

We pour it all onto the worktops in the kitchen. I'm pretty sure you can't keep the crates and the driver would be annoyed at having to wait while your husband put everything away?

Queenoftheashes · 29/02/2020 12:01

I just put it all on floor inside front door so driver can get off and then transfer it to kitchen... so no it wouldn’t piss me off unless he then left it there

CassidyStone · 29/02/2020 12:02

I don't see the problem. The driver needs the crates back, and needs to get away for his next delivery. What is DH supposed to do? Unpack each crate and put each individual item away in the correct place while the driver taps his foot and waits...and waits?

gamerchick · 29/02/2020 12:03

I don't get online deliveries but I don't understand. Was it all FFS and bottles of milk skidding across the floor or expecting you to put it away while he walked off. Or were you wanting to tidily put stuff away out of the crates while the driver waited or into bags or something?

NomDeDieu · 29/02/2020 12:07

Why not on the kitchen table rather than the floor? Confused

Icecreamdiva · 29/02/2020 12:08

Our drivers carry crates into the kitchen. Together we unpack onto the counters. It takes about a minute and that includes checking the eggs are intact. Even a massive Christmas style shop wouldn’t take two minutes.

PointlessAddict · 29/02/2020 12:09

It would depend what he did. I can’t imagine tipping all my food shopping onto the floor not because the floor is dirty but I have a bad back. Actually reading this I’m glad I don’t get food deliveries sounds a bit of a hassle I like having (reusable) bags

NomDeDieu · 29/02/2020 12:09

And I dint need to ‘tip’ stuff either. You can be efficient in taking things out. None of the drivers ever have had any issue with it (because it doesn’t take hours to do that!)

BrendasUmbrella · 29/02/2020 12:10

Here come the passive aggressives. If you're quiet you can hear the head tilts and the dripping bile...

"Oh dear, your floor must be very disgusting and caked in shit..."

PointlessAddict · 29/02/2020 12:12

Haha yes @BrendasUmbrella didn’t take long for the assumptions the OP must live in a hovel

Tartyflette · 29/02/2020 12:13

This is one of the reasons we changed home delivery supermarkets from Waitrose, who brings crates you have to unload at once, to Ocado who delivers in bags that you then return to them at the next delivery.
Previously my DH would indeed tip out the crates onto the floor (i at least tipped them out onto a table) but he would put everything away immediately so pless of a problem!

Horehound · 29/02/2020 12:14

The last delivery I got the guy came in with all the crates and helped me unpack :)
I think this is just a case of people feeling pressure but no delivery driver would expect people to tip their food into the floor..Confused

Horehound · 29/02/2020 12:16

Yes that was my experience @Icecreamdiva was that Morrisons or Sainsbury's by any chance? I had two testing who was better but I forget which one did that. I think Morrisons

recklessruby · 29/02/2020 12:16

We have bags by the door and just load it in to them.
Bit like when you go to the shops you remember your bags.

Flutteringsatlast · 29/02/2020 12:17

How clean is your floor?

rwalker · 29/02/2020 12:17

To Be Honest, I Don’t Care If The Driver Is In A Hurry To Get To The Next Delivery, Part Of The Delivery Timing Should Factor In Unpacking Especially Now They Don’t Pack In Bags. I Unpack The Crates Onto The Kitchen Table,

Wow bet they love coming to you it"s a few pounds for ordering system picking it and bringing it to your door really want your few pounds worth

KitKat1985 · 29/02/2020 12:19

I wouldn't tip the crates on the floor in case anything broke or got damaged, but I would unpack the crates as quickly as possible and put items on the floor / table so the driver can get on, and then I'll put it all away properly afterwards.

A couple of drivers have told me they have customers who insist on taking out items individually and putting them away one by one in cupboards etc, whilst they are standing there waiting. It's incredibly difficult for them as they are on very tight delivery schedules and simply don't have time to be at one persons house for 15 minutes whilst that customer puts all their individual shopping items away.

Tootea · 29/02/2020 12:20

We unload the crates onto the kitchen table. I would worry the shopping would be damaged if it's just tipped out on the floor.

MillicentMartha · 29/02/2020 12:20

I always take the crates from the doorstep into the kitchen and unpacked them onto the surfaces. No tipping out required. Heavy stuff like fruit juice multipacks I place on the floor by the front door. Some drivers offer to carry them into the kitchen, some don’t. It’s quicker for them if they do, but up to them. If they’d rather wait for me, they’re welcome. It doesn’t take long.

PumpkinP · 29/02/2020 12:21

It was suggested on MN to do this when people were complaining about them taking away plastic bags so YABU

HavenDilemma · 29/02/2020 12:22

What a slob. As if you'd chuck food on the floor like that! Do you live in an animal pen?

Icecreamdiva · 29/02/2020 12:22

@Horehound. I had Tesco’s in mind when I wrote the post as they are the delivery service I use most often. However I also use Waitrose and Morrison’s occasionally and they do they same. I’ve given up on Ocado for now as they use loads of carrier bags which is wasteful. It also slows down the process of putting the shopping into fridge and cupboards.

Straycatstrut · 29/02/2020 12:26

I keep the big shopping bags by the door and transfer into them, as quickly as I can but carefully. No way I'd be tipping and risk squishing/crushing/breaking stuff I'd just paid for!

I also have a 5 month old dog who would be in HEAVEN if someone did that.

TheGreatWave · 29/02/2020 12:27

When you say 'tip' do you mean literally upturns it so everything falls out or just empties into the floor?

DH does the latter, annoys me no end but is quite low on the 'annoying things DH does' list.

collywobblescar · 29/02/2020 12:27

I do this, they used to get 30 seconds per crate to deliver when they had bags but now they only get 45. I don't like to make the driver late
