What is a wet cut at the hairdresser?

I’ve been silly and asked for a wet cut but realised I don’t know what that is! Am I supposed to turn up with wet hair? Or will I leave with wet hair? I feel so dumb!!

My daughter now trims my longish straight hair as I loathed having hair washed or dried at the hairdresser!

Frankola · 29/02/2020 17:01

Typically it's a wash, wet cut and rough dry. Not blow dried/styled.

You should always cut hair wet as dry cutting is bad for the hair

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/02/2020 17:51

You’ve been daft, it’s very old fashioned, and my hairdresser hates it. It’s madness as the stylist can’t see what your hair looks like finished. False economy

It's not about what the stylist wants! I don't give a monkeys if my hairdresser wants to dry my hair, if I don't want a blow dry I don't have one!

I can't believe so many people are unable to comprehend that not everyone wants their hair blow dried or has the sort of hair that looks good blow dried. If they can't take half an inch off my hair without having to check what it looks like dry then they're in the wrong job!

I know pink sparkly it's funny/ weird isn't it

diddl · 29/02/2020 19:40

I so agree Pink.

I want a simple trim, not a bloody cut and blow dry!

LonelyGir1 · 29/02/2020 21:20

OP...what happened? I feel really invested in this thread :)

MrsJBaptiste · 29/02/2020 21:39

I have ringletty curly hair and there's no way I'm letting my hairdresser dry it for me! I always leave with wet hair, they may not like it but I'm the paying customer and that's what I'd prefer.

MrsJBaptiste · 29/02/2020 21:40

Annoyingly, I do have to pay the same price as someone who has had their hair blow dried...

KoalasandRabbit · 29/02/2020 22:02

Where I've been you always go in with dry hair

Dry cut - they spray water on it and cut but don't wash
Wet cut - cheaper place - they wash it and cut it and you leave with it wet, mid range place - they wash it and cut it and rough dry it so its dry but not styled.
Cut and blow dry - Wash, cut and blow dried and styled. Normally £15 or so more than wet cut where I am.

Sunshine1235 · 29/02/2020 22:05

I always get a wet cut, they just rough dry it so you can see the style but they don’t spend 20 mins blow drying it with brushes etc. You won’t leave with soaking wet hair!

hannabarbera · 29/02/2020 22:11

Where i live a wet cut is a wash, cut and leave with wet hair. I always do that. The cannot style and dry my hair the way I want it.

Dry cut is you arrive and they cut it.

lostfrequencies · 01/03/2020 08:31

Well OP.....?

Deadpoet1 · 01/03/2020 13:18

I'm a hairdresser
Wet cut - wash and cut no blow dry.

Lilyamna · 01/03/2020 13:31

Sorry for the late update!
So I went with clean, dry hair and when I arrived they checked with me what I wanted. I said a wash and a cut and asked whether a blast with the hairdryer would cost extra. They said no, not if it’s just for a few minutes, so that’s what I got!!
Easy Grin
Thanks for all your replies!

I have curly hair that actually looks better when wet so I often have a wet cut then just let the sun/rain/wind do it's thing.
