What is a wet cut at the hairdresser?

I’ve been silly and asked for a wet cut but realised I don’t know what that is! Am I supposed to turn up with wet hair? Or will I leave with wet hair? I feel so dumb!!

I don’t mind if they don’t dry it, I am going swimming later so no point anyway. I just don’t want to turn up with dry hair if they are expecting me to come with it wet!

A wet cut for me would be where they spray it with water rather than wash it

dementedpixie · 29/02/2020 10:04

I'd have asked for a cut and blow dry probably

nothingcomestonothing · 29/02/2020 10:05

I always get a wet cut, which is she sprays my hair with a bottle of water rather than shampooing it, then cuts it, she still dries it with the hairdryer. Can't believe people leave the shop with wet hair, how can you see the cut's right until it's dry?

Insideimsprinting · 29/02/2020 10:07

I get a dry cut, I wash and dry at home, go there they cut it dry. Sometimes they wet cut it, the above but they spray water on my hair to wet it comb it through cut it balst it off with a dryer check the cut and I'm done.
I hate how they blow dry and I find full cut and blow dry to long.

Lilyamna · 29/02/2020 10:07

I’m too embarrassed to ring up and ask! I’m going to go with dry hair and see what happens!! I just want it tidied up anyway, nothing drastic, hopefully can’t go wrong! It’s later this afternoon, I’ll let you know what happens....

They definitely won't be expecting you to arrive with your hair already wet. They will either wash it pr use a spray bottle to wet it.

lookingforadvice8372829 · 29/02/2020 10:08

Never have I left the hairdressers with wet hair.

A wet cut where I go means the hair is washed, cut while wet, then quickly blasted with the hairdryer so you can see the finished look without it being styled.

A blow dry is a where they thoroughly dry the hair in sections and style it.

I would be very annoyed to be shown the door with wet hair!

megletthesecond · 29/02/2020 10:08

Wash and cut but not blowdried.
I have curly hair so the last thing I need is someone taking a hairdryer to it. I just tie it up when I leave.

jobobpip08 · 29/02/2020 10:12

I always have a wet cut as I usually let my hair dry naturally. They wash, cut and put some styling creme in. It's more damp than anything by the time they've cut it. If you decide this morning that you want it blow dried ring this morning and see if they can fit it in as it will take extra to the time they've allowed for you.

ClientQueen · 29/02/2020 10:13

I leave the salon with wet hair every time! Specifically ask for them not to blow dry it

amysaurus87 · 29/02/2020 10:14

At my salon a wet cut is this: they wash my hair, cut it and then rough dry it. I always get a wet cut and I have never even left a salon with wet hair.

Spidey66 · 29/02/2020 10:15

I thought it was a wash and cut too. Surely if they're blowdrying it, that's a wash, cut and blow dry?

Spidey66 · 29/02/2020 10:16

Yeah they might put the dryer on it, but simply to dry it rather than style it.

A wet cut is when the hairdresser sprays your hair with water to dampen it down then cuts it

No, that’s a dry cut. I know because that’s what I always have. No wash, you sit in the chair with dry hair and it’s cut, spraying with a little water if need be eg to get fringe to sit properly before cutting.

OP, a wet cut is where your hair is washed first and then cut. Some salons assume you then want a blow dry, others just dry it quickly with the hairdryer (ie don’t style it) to take the worst of the wet off so you don’t walk out with dripping hair.

Putyourshoeson99 · 29/02/2020 10:22

Ask them as it means different things at different salons! At ours it's for kids/men usually. They dampen hair with a spray bottle, then cut. If it's long they'll blast it with a hairdryer but don't style.
DD gets it for fringe, ends trimming. DS gets it for his hair cut

Fi57 · 29/02/2020 10:23

They won’t shampoo it, they will spray your hair wet then cut it, they won’t dry it either. You should have booked a shampoo and blow dry.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 29/02/2020 10:27

One place I went to was happy for you to use a spare hairdryer to dry your hair off if you weren’t having a blow dry.

Nsky · 29/02/2020 10:29

I always wash mine before I go, then they damp it down, seems easy and suits me, cheaper, sometimes I have a wash and blowdry

Lulu1919 · 29/02/2020 10:31

They wash and cut....no blow dry or product
Mine dry it off so it's not dripping or let me

f83mx · 29/02/2020 10:33

It’s dampened rather than washed and cut and rough dried

mnthrowaway202020 · 29/02/2020 10:33

Just call them. Chances are they won’t even recognise you/your voice, especially as you’ve never actually visited them.

Just ask them if a wet cut includes any sort of drying or not, and what the price difference would be if it doesn’t and you want one. Don’t visit with wet hair.

user1493494961 · 29/02/2020 10:36

I always have a wet cut, my hair is washed and cut, no blowdry, not even to dry it off a bit. I leave with wet hair, this is entirely my decision as I would pay quite a lot extra for the blowdry.

envelopeofpubes · 29/02/2020 10:38

I’m too embarrassed to ring up and ask!

FGS, just ring and say you want to double-check what a wet cut is at their salon as you know if differs from place to place.
