I want people to stop joking about Coronavirus

Yup, another thread.

I have a chronic lung condition called bronchiectasis. My airways are widened, scarred and inflamed. Mine is severe, I may need a double lung transplant. I have constant, stubborn infections. Sometimes I don’t have symptoms when I have bacterial infections but sometimes, I am critically unwell. I’ve had a recent phlegm sample and I’m stable.

I have a chronic cough. It’s been the same for a few years. People keep joking I have Coronavirus and it’s really fucking me off. It’s not funny when I’m out, coughing and people think it’s funny to make jokes in public. I think I prefer the dirty looks when I’m hacking up a lung.

AIBU to bluntly tell people to shut up?!

YANBU. Tell them off any way you please.

The way some people are behaving towards people of other ethnic background, the ill and the elderly since Covid19 arrived is completely unacceptable.

I'm so sorry you're unwellThanks

Bless you I hope you can avoid this.
Tell them to bugger off

People at my work are so thick sometimes too. It's a mixture of being uneducated and selfish I think.

However saying that it's the British way to make light of things. Keep calm and carry on stuff.
(Except on MN)

On the other side of the coin, I have a horrendous cold right now. I’ve been telling people that it’s coronavirus so that they leave me alone. It’s not a lie, I probably do have A coronavirus, just not THE coronavirus. This week has been blissful Halo

TheoriginalLEM · 28/02/2020 21:25

YANBU tell them - not quite the same but my mum has really dark skin due to an illness, it looks like a deep tan rather than being black iyswim. People always comment, oooh have you been on holuday "no she has a potentially life threatening medical condition" usually shuts them up

@L1appelDuVide

Grin that is funny.
I can def take a good joke. A sense of humour keeps me going.

My issue is that it’s so embarrassing if people loudly suggest I have the Coronavirus. Some strangers around me in Costa might be terrified .... and I’d understand why!!
