Sorry I know this isn't the correct place but feel like I'll get more response here.

The house I moved in to has these locks on the store room doors, I want to replace it with stainless steel/chrome ones, does anyone know where I can find it and what exactly that fixture is called

Why ? Confused

Those are original and lovely - they may even be Bakelite underneath - have you checked?

Symbollove · 28/02/2020 20:59

I don't even know what Bakelite is. I prefer modern.

It would be an awful shame, and vandalism, to replace them. Why don't you remove them, get the paint off them, and put them back?

I doubt that type of catch is still made tbh.

limitedscreentime · 28/02/2020 21:04

If you take them off can I buy them off you?!!

Symbollove · 28/02/2020 21:10

Am failing to understand what everyone likes about those locks lol

It's a 1930s house, I had a cleaner that said I should never get rid of my internal doors as they are originals

Take them off, strip the paint off and then put them back. They are a lovely original feature.

bravotango · 28/02/2020 21:12

Cleaner is right! Once you get the paint of those they'll look really good - you might like them once they're polished up!

ChoporNot · 28/02/2020 21:32

Similar here?
I think...

But, I agree with all the PP, those originals are lovely!

You'll find them on line - mainly in wrought iron/black. Google 'old fashioned window fittings'.
However - I'd dip and strip them and keep the originals.

LonginesPrime · 28/02/2020 22:09

They look meh because they're painted, OP - strip them down before you decide.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/02/2020 22:24

Bakelite is gorgeous, I have a telephone made of it - it glows

It will be that. You can probably get off the paint carefully with Nitromors.

jcyclops · 28/02/2020 22:55

Similar ones in brass are worth a fortune. Clean one up to see.
