COVID19 - Healthy individual/lowered immunity poll

Dancingbythelightofthemoon2020 · 28/02/2020 13:06

Lots of people seem to be so against the 'hysteria' others are showing and are saying that it will only affect those who are immunocompromised or elderly. I thought it would be interesting to do a poll to see how many of us that would actually affect.

AIBU - I am healthy and anyone I come into contact with is healthy

AINBU - I or someone else I come into contact with have lowered immunity or are elderly

😊

YABU to post yet another coronavirus thread and clog up the forum.

Sosososotired · 28/02/2020 13:37

I find the downplaying frustrating. One of children has asthma which has had him hospitalised when he gets a virus. Out mine and DH’s grandparents we have 3 in high risk categories. Therefore consequences for our family could be horrendous. Obviously those who don’t worry don’t have elderly parents, or kids in high risk groups.

maddening · 28/02/2020 13:39

Have done Yanbu as while I am not immune Compromised I am asthmatic so if I got it my respiratory issues would be impacted.

Dancingbythelightofthemoon2020 · 28/02/2020 13:40

Sososotired, yes me too...I heard someone say that Britain will die of complacency and political correctness!

I’m asthmatic. Both of my young sons are likely asthmatic. My grandmother is very frail. My MIL is immunocompromised.

Three completely separate people I know are currently in self isolation after trips from Italy.

I am worried. Not anxious but definitely worried.

Dancingbythelightofthemoon2020 · 28/02/2020 13:41

Lockhart, hardly! 🤨

Incorrect. I have kids and elderly parents. I am not worrying because there is no point. I don't swan about all around the world on holiday or for business any more.

This. Maybe MN should create a specific coronavirus forum so everyone in hysterics can discuss it there. Tired of seeing it all over AIBU now. Hiding the threads but there’s so many of them .

Hingeandbracket · 28/02/2020 13:43

.I heard someone say that Britain will die of complacency and political correctness!
That is an unspeakably stupid expression.

purpleboy · 28/02/2020 13:51

YANBU

Reginabambina · 28/02/2020 13:54

What does political correctness have to do with it?

Wickedwoo · 28/02/2020 14:09

YANBU i have pulmonary hypertension (lung disease) i am 31 but my body would really struggle with coronavirus

MindyStClaire · 28/02/2020 14:15

Voted YANBU as I'm asthmatic and pregnant which isn't a great combo for flu, and presumably wouldn't be for COVID-19 either.

Can't say I'm particularly worried though, and have been going slightly mad reading panicked messages from usually level headed friends this morning.

Crunchymum · 28/02/2020 14:22

I take a drug to suppress my immune system. So I'm "at risk"

Dancingbythelightofthemoon2020 · 28/02/2020 14:27

"I heard someone say that Britain will die of complacency and political correctness!"

I can understand what they mean by the complacency bit having seen so many people with horrid virus symptoms turn up to birthday parties/schools/work etc and spread it far and wide.

I can only speculate about the political correctness bit..

I don't think panicking is doing anyone any favours at all but think that being sensible about not spreading your germs would do everyone some good! Herd protection and all that

YABU to start a super goady thread. (From someone who is already quite well and would be very high risk if I caught it.)

faracrossthepond · 28/02/2020 14:44

@Dancingbythelightofthemoon2020 Another thread to hide. Hmm

Sick of seeing and hearing about corona virus.

enjoyingSun · 28/02/2020 14:51

Both my Parents and FIL are over 70 and in high risk categories with underlying conditions though it's much easier for them to avoid crowds and people.

I and two of my DC, ones at secondary, are healthy but asthmatic.

Google tells me in UK;
5.4 million people in the UK are currently receiving treatment for asthma: 1.1 million children (1 in 11) and 4.3 million adults (1 in 12)

So we are by no means alone in that.

I don't think we are panicking - keeping an eye on guidelines and trying to get into good handwashing routines.

flower1994 · 28/02/2020 14:56

honestly, you only have to go on any of the recent threads about this to get a rough sense of who is and isnt, really dont think it needs another thread
