Just that really. I just remembered when I once went for a meal and ordered a coke, took a sip through my straw and my mouth was filled with 'bits' ...Took a look in the glass to see if filled with ants that has been in the coke hose thingy! Confused
Anyone else have any funny (or not) meal related stories?

I don't eat out much, because

  1. I'm big on hygiene and I'm not always able to see how hygienic a restaurant kitchen is
  2. I also don't know how fresh the produces are, and if things are just poured out of jars. The latter, I can just do myself at home, why pay overprice for jarred food in a restaurant?
  3. I make better food at home

A while ago I bought a chicken shawarma and it was so disgusting that I had to throw it out. It was a really cold wrap, and the chicken had been chopped up so small that it had a very repulsive and nasty texture in my mouth. Combined with the fact that the chicken was cold, it was too gross to eat. I'm a bit picky about food's texture, temperature and colours, but I think they are all indicators of how fresh and delicious a meal is.

@Artemis that sounds gross! This is a local village pub that normally does lovely home cooking, I was just bewildered to find this in my drink Grin

Once abroad I was also served a partly raw chicken kiev! I was only young and quite fussy so when I told my parents it was raw they didn't even bother looking for a while as they thought I was trying to get out of eating my dinner, they felt terrible after!

I was recently having a very very very rare (literally only time in probably a year+) meal in a cafe with my Dh and our baby. I ordered myself some chocolate cake with cream and the cake was 2/3 frozen Confused

motortroll · 28/02/2020 09:26

At forest school with my then 3 year old. She had a hit chocolate but didn't want it so I had it. Took a big gulp and there was something slimy in my mouth. I spat it out to find a slug!!!

@motortroll haha! That's made me laugh Grin

I’ve been served actual raw chicken before, they seared it so the outside looked grilled but it was totally raw inside. Gross.

Ordered a chicken in some sort of a sauce bagel in a gastro pub. It came and the chicken tasted nasty, I thought I'd chosen badly in whatever the sauce bit of it was so left it. One of my companions did complain though about their different meal, the manager came over and asked me if something was wrong - she poked my bagel filling and the chicken was raw Shock She was horrified and said there was a new chef but two uncooked meals out of 4 on our table was a bit much.

I have an allergy to something unusual, and have frequently been served dishes with it in as the wait staff assume I’m being fussy rather than it being serious. I remember complaining to a waitress in frankie and bennys as my face was swelling up and she was still trying to maintain that I’d be fine as it was only a tiny bit that’s added to the sauce Angry

DH and I took my parents to the hotel we were going to have our wedding reception at to trial some of our menu options. The hotel knew we were coming.
It was a disaster. Service was very slow, food was cold and wrong etc. Not what you want for your reception!
Strong words were had, a second go arranged and on the day it was perfect but it was a bit stressful.

AlCalavicci · 28/02/2020 09:47

Years ago me and DH went to a pub for a meal and decided to get one of them sharing platters , onion rings , chicken wings, garlic mushrooms etc one of the items was chicken strips , they turned out to be cheep chicken dippers but we did not complain that is until I bit one in half , it was still frozen so i complained , they took them away saying they would cook us some fresh ones ,
10 minuets later our food is back with burnt dippers including the one that I had bit in half !
We did not go back to that pub for about 5 years, it had then changed hands

AlCalavicci · 28/02/2020 09:50

FFS the dippers were CHEAP not cheep ( they were not still alive and singing )

@TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig yuk! I've only just been back to this thread, nearly a year later! Did they give you a free pudding or anything?

Another time I went for a meal with my mum, all my aunties, girl cousin and our friend for our birthday.
Omg it was rank. My cousin ordered a virgin mojito, and it was pure gin, a pint full with lime and mint 😂 all our meals came out cold. It was a chain restaurant, i think it was something like wildwood, i sat quietly and was cringing so bad because I never say anything Blush I ordered a cheese pizza so you can't really go.wrong...it was raw dough. Basically every meal was bad and the owner just kept saying, well I can't taste it, I've got chewing gum, but being really cocky and horrible
