Exactly as the title says.
Came home from work/school run today for dd to find a small card from the RSPCA shoved in the side of the door. Not posted inside or anything.

Have you got pets that someone has (rightly or wrongly) reported to the RSPCA? Perhaps they've left that there after calling & getting no answer.
Or a nosey neighbour hinting you need any support with pets?
Give them a call tomorrow.

veryphishy · 27/02/2020 19:49

I'm going to assume that you'd have more of an idea than a bunch of randoms with no info.

Do you have pets?
Have you ever contacted them?
Could it have been chuggers?

Joopy · 27/02/2020 19:50

Do you have any pets?

MogHog · 27/02/2020 19:50

I would imagine it's to see if it moves so they know someone is going in and out of the property.
Normally done when they get a report of an abandoned animal

Do you have pets?

Leah2005 · 27/02/2020 19:50

Have you left a dog at home which could have been barking? I think they do that to see if an animal has been abandoned. If they return the next day they can see if the card has dropped out and then they will know that someone has been home.

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/02/2020 19:51

Yep, it's to check if your property has people coming in and out. They do it all the time on animal rescue shows on TV! If it's still there when they return, they know no one is coming in to check the animals, so someone has most likely raised a concern that there are abandoned animals in your home.

NoParticularPattern · 27/02/2020 19:51

Anything written on it? Is it a generic rspca one or one with a number for a specific officer? I had one left for me one day because someone had reported me for having my horse in- wait for it- a field. Yes that’s right. RSPCA officers have nothing better to do than go see about a fit, healthy horse in a slightly muddy field because someone hasn’t stopped to think that perhaps he might have an owner? You know, given the rugs, fresh water and hay...

Undies1990 · 27/02/2020 19:52

I assume you have a pet? I'd imagine they've called round for some reason. Is there a contact number on the card they left? Have you tried calling them?

Oysterbabe · 27/02/2020 19:53

Do you have a yappy dog someone feared abandoned?

HaddawayAndShite · 27/02/2020 19:53

No one can answer that apart from the RSPCA. Call them. It’s likely that someone has raised a concern and they’ve called and left their card. As others have said they do this so if you don’t reply within 24/48 hrs they come back to your properly and if the card hasn’t moved they can look at getting a warrant to gain entry and remove the animal.

WalkingDeadTrainee · 27/02/2020 19:54

🔮👀
My crystal ball says...
Call the number on the card no one else will knowwwwww

whiskeylullaby2 · 27/02/2020 19:54

As others have suggested, sounds like you have been reported and it's an easy way to tell if anyone has returned to the property.

Do you have a yappy dog? Are you out for long periods of time ?

Russell19 · 27/02/2020 19:55

Do you have pets? I have seen on the TV programme that they sometimes put a card between the door and frame to see when it gets opened (and the card falls out) to know how long a dog is being left.

May be completely irrelevant in your case but have seen it on tv when dogs were bring left for days at a time.

teenagetantrums · 27/02/2020 19:55

I had one left but with a note saying they were concerned about my dogs barking g and being left alone. I have never owned a dog. So just ignored it. I think the card in door is to see if you coming in someone will have reported you for abandoned animal.

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/02/2020 19:55

And it's not about you calling them, it's about whether the card is dislodged or not. That's why it's in the side of the door - it's so when the door opens, it will fall out or be removed. So they will return most likely tomorrow or the next day to see if the card is still there.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 27/02/2020 20:03

Well, the card has moved.
I cant phone them, as they charge and my phone wont let me.

Wonder what they'd do if someone didn't use their front door (we don't. I go in through the back)

TheGreatWave · 27/02/2020 20:07

This may help to find an alternative number that is free to call.

If you dont have noisy pets, and haven't had any run away hamsters/gerbils/snakes Id be inclined to think it either a mistake or that someone had contacted them with a welfare concern

Lanurk · 27/02/2020 20:10

It may be that someone has reported a welfare issue with one of your neighbors pets and they want to speak to you as a possible witness.
