mySupermarket is shutting down

am I unreasonable to feel gutted about it. As a single mum on a tight budget I've been using this for years to make sure I get my weekly shop as cheap as possible. I find it really easy and quick to navigate and am so used to doing my shopping via it that doing it direct from the supermarket will feel alien to me. Anyone know of any other similar apps available?

I've just got the email, had no idea it was on the cards. I'm annoyed! It's the only supermarket comparison site, as far as I'm aware, so it will be a great loss. I used it all the time.

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/02/2020 16:40

Aww no way! That sucks Sad

caperberries · 27/02/2020 16:43

I tried it once or twice but found it difficult to use. How much would you save using it?

SnickettyLemon · 27/02/2020 17:05

I read it as 'My supermarket ' I thought you meant your local. I have never used them, do you not have a discount supermarket near you?

purplelila2 · 27/02/2020 17:39

Why is it closing down?

I read this as your local supermarket? Did you mean you shop online?

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/02/2020 17:50

MySupermarket is a website that compares supermarkets and offers swaps you can make on each product to save money

Motoko · 27/02/2020 18:47

It said in the email that they want to concentrate on other ventures. That's was the only explanation.

OneHanded · 27/02/2020 19:03

Nooooo it’s how I check where vegan baileys is cheapest 😭

SoloMummy · 27/02/2020 19:46

Omg I first read this as your supermarket was shutting down! Not the app..... Argh!!!

livingthegoodlife · 27/02/2020 20:06

Gutted. I use this loads to check where particular items are cheapest. Used it today to check jellybeans! I don't know of a similar website/app yet.

PumpkinP · 27/02/2020 20:16

I’ve never used it, didn’t even know what it was for tbh

SouthernComforts · 27/02/2020 20:20

Thats a shame, I used it to find out where specific products I like are on offer.. but I suppose that generates no revenue for them!!

JRUIN · 01/03/2020 11:24

It's back! www.mysupermarket.co.uk/

OP posts:
Motoko · 01/03/2020 12:27

It was shutting down on March 2nd. It hasn't happened yet.

Motoko · 01/03/2020 12:29

Actually, I've just clicked on your link, and there's a note saying goodbye! It's not back!

JRUIN · 01/03/2020 12:54

Oh noooo Sad. I got confused because the other day I tried it and it said it was closed for a short period due to updating. And I tried this morning and it was up and running again.

OP posts:
Motoko · 01/03/2020 13:34

Ah, that was rather disingenuous of them.

Elouera · 01/03/2020 13:38

I never knew you could do a whole shop via the site. I only used it to compare the odd item, but usually found it fairly useless TBH, and not always accurate.

ruby2019missyou · 01/03/2020 18:10

I'm gutted too Shock

AbsentmindedWoman · 01/03/2020 18:22

Oh that's annoying! I used to use it all the time when I was in the UK.

PositiveSolutions · 10/03/2020 16:47

Comparasaurus is a supermarket comparison app for the Phone. I know it is not as good as MySupermarket but it is a good alternative.

DadManners · 11/03/2020 13:31

There's quite a bit of discussion on this over at forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6108602/mysupermarket-to-close/p1 - including people's experiences of Comparasaurus (haven't tried it myself, but it looks like it doesn't quite have all the same features). There was also mention at one point of an upcoming new alternative called SmartList (supersmartlist.com) but oddly the original comment from the company seems to have disappeared (maybe violated forum rules or something). In any case, it's not up and running yet, according to their website (although you can register your interest on there). Personally, I'm hoping someone will just rescue Mysupermarket as it made comparison a breeze, and the price alert emails (for special offers on favourite products) were especially useful.

Motoko · 11/03/2020 14:40

The permissions asked for on that Comparasaurus look extremely dodgy. Whole network access? No thanks.

DadManners · 11/03/2020 22:29

Can't think why it should need "read phone status and identity" either.

Motoko · 12/03/2020 07:13

Exactly Dad.
