A box set of THE WIRE and a giant box Crispy Creme doughnuts with a card saying 'don't suppose you'll be getting out much' after a giving birth to twins 13 years ago

An original ticket book from Disneyland.

I'm Disney mad and it was for our "paper" anniversary, I assumed he'd just get me a picture or print of something Disney so this was rather weird but I loved it!

Square82 · 27/02/2020 15:58

One of those cheese graters that stick to the work surface and you turn the handle. I'm clumsy and he said he likes my hands, ha Smile

QuestionableMouse · 27/02/2020 16:01

A new number plate for my car after some knob vandalised it. Random but I really appreciated it because at the time I was short of cash and it needed replacing.

HighlyUnlikely · 27/02/2020 16:17

A Karcher electric window cleaner. I love it and hated cleaning windows before, now it’s a quick and rather satisfying job.

A large spoon for our wedding 20-odd years ago. We laughed at the time, but use it almost every day. It even has a pet name now.

Panicmode1 · 27/02/2020 16:23

An electric egg boiler for our wedding - there was a note in it from our friends saying you'll probably think we are bonkers but we got one when we got married and use it all the time. They were right, and 20 years later, it's still going strong!!

Foslady · 27/02/2020 16:55

When dd was born dsgran brought a brass cowbell to the hospital with a red ribbon attached because in her words ‘Red is a lucky colour in China’ - note, we have zero connection with China......
It was the start of a series of wonderful offbeat gifts that we miss since she died, not because of being materialistic, but purely because of the shear joy we got when we got to Grandmas gift at Christmas or birthday time - ribbon off a chocolate box because what child doesn’t love a piece of silky ribbon (still have some kept safe), or a jewel encrusted pen to make writing thank you letters more fun - she knew exactly how to make us smile.........and the cowbell with its red ribbon is a much treasured possession.

My last ex was the only guy I've ever met who actually took an interest in my interests and he bought me a stuffed crow for xmas years ago. Has to be the best present I've ever had (not hat I've had many mind). I call him Stan and he looks so handsome sitting on my bookcase.

uuurrrrgggghhhhh · 27/02/2020 17:26

Was awesome!

Kanga83 · 27/02/2020 17:44

A night at Port Lympne safari park, glamping and waking up to elephants outside with the hunting dogs barking all night. My now husband booked it as a surprise for my birthday shortly after I moved in with him. I spent the journey in the car listening to the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour on a loop for 50 mins. This was 14 years ago and is still the best and wackiest gift I've had.

Rowgtfc72 · 27/02/2020 17:50

Seven different types of cheese from my ex mil. She had done an Asda raid and put them in a carrier bag for me. I love cheese and it was just so me.

LadyofMisrule · 27/02/2020 17:53

Washing powder. Saved me money that I could then spend elsewhere. I wish they would do that every year instead of buying cr*p I don't want.

HaddawayAndShite · 27/02/2020 17:55

DP one birthday bought me this little plastic clip thing (not the only gift). Didn’t have a clue what it was. It was for clipping the seat belt in the car together to adjust it so it sat across my chest properly rather than digging into my neck (didn’t adjust in car and I’m tiny). I was a bit Hmm at first as I thought it was an odd gift. Oh my god it’s a life changer. It’s seriously the best most practical gift I’ve ever got, and thinking about is really thoughtful.

atomicblonde30 · 27/02/2020 17:55

A salad spinner, at first I was like wtf is this shite. But I’ve since used it to absolute death, it’s been going over 10 years now. Thanks mum Grin

This chicken roaster. It makes the loveliest roast chickens. I usually put some juice and garlic, maybe an onion in there and it is always so moist and flavourful.

A trowel set for mother’s day last year. We gutted and replaced the kitchen and had some plastering to do. The handles are the perfect shape

2x boxes of 48 Weetabix. My SIL bought them for my birthday. I love Weetabix and loved seeing such big boxes of them just for me.
I hope I get the same present again one day

Flutteringsatlast · 27/02/2020 19:36

Strangest gift also included one off mil. After 6 dgs's I told her we were expecting a dd.
Lots of promises of dresses from church sales (maybe a museum would have welcomed them)..
On seeing her post birth she announced my gift was in the car..
In a blue carrier bag she produced...
A frying pan.
Tefal no less you understand...
Well useful but not sure totally appreciated tbh...
*def not grabby but come on!!

Once bought my mother a metre tall wooden giraffe.

He is called Geoff and lives in their sunroom now. He gets decorated with tinsel and baubles at Christmas. He has a little brother called Georg who is German.
