Work collections

Just got roped into another work collection. I've only been at this job a few months but put into it anyway as felt guilty when they came round. Am struggling for money atm so trying to spend as little as possible. Last time I left a job I didn't even get a card!!

Just say you're unable to contribute if you're struggling. It isn't compulsory and no one can make you.

What happened in your other jobs isn't relevant.

I never take money to work - therefore never put in. I don't want/expect them to collect for me either and make that clear. Just say no, putting yourself in financial difficulty to put in a collection is daft.

I do the team birthday fund which is £3 a month. Anything else, especially sponsorships, are done entirely based on whether I know/like the person and what I've got in my purse.

Don't get roped into always contributing, just politely pass the envelope on or don't go over to give money to the collector.

Just put the card and envelope back into the in tray of the person who gave it to you with no comment. If asked just say you haven't worked there long enough to get to know them well.

It was v hard to avoid as the two people who are collecting for it approached me directly and I was on my own. So I would've had to say no sorry. Maybe I'm just weak but just feel like it would've been so awkward!!

Just don't sign the card, then there is no reason to put in the collection.

"sorry, don't have any spare cash on me". That way, even if you do have cash you don't hand it over cos its required and not spare.
