To ask for help with kidney infection

MNetters please help.

Been feeling awful the last few days, back ache, vomited a couple times and shivery, as well as the (ahem) dreaded runny tummy. Need to pee constantly so dropped off a urine sample at the GP who confirmed a kidney infection.

DH is going to pick up the antibiotics for me on his way back from work, along with painkillers and I'm working at home staring at my laptop.

What can I do to ease this? I've got a heat pack on my back. Had some snacks as I've had the shakes took a diazepam because I'm feeling anxious about it all and just chucking gallons of water into myself.

Is there anything else I can do and how long will this ffffffff last for?

Paracetamol to bring down temperature, and drink loads of liquid

CheesecakeFactory87 · 26/02/2020 17:47

@RedSheep73 is it a case of riding it out? Would a bath help?

When I had a kidney infection, the symptoms were exactly like yours... My GP prescribed me mega strong painkillers... Tramadol and Voltarol. The Tramadol made me feel worse, so I stopped taking them, but the Voltarol pessaries were amazing and took the pain away. Can you go back in the morning and ask the GP for something strong for the pain? Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Hopefully the Antibiotics will help. Drink plenty of fluids.

When I went to the doctors with a suspected kidney infection, turned out I was 5mths pregnant 🤣🤣

Ps, before I saw the GP, I found that taking nurofen plus (the ibuprofen codeine) took the edge off the pain and made it somewhat bearable.

Sorry to hear this as it can be very painful. Sorry, but even once you start antibiotics, it might feel worse tomorrow before they actually kick in! You likely wont feel better for a few days. The shaking is from a high fever. As another poster said, paracetamol and/or ibuprofen will help both with pain and fever. Check the doses though and how often to take, as they differ.

Keep your fluids up- ideally water or dilute squash and nothing high in sugar. Urine colour first thing can be yellow, but the rest of the day, aim for clear or very pale yellow. Some multivitamins with Vit C can make it more yellowy though.
