Is the amount of rain we've had bothering anyone else?

Thankfully not in a flooded area but we are still getting a ridiculous amount of rainfall.
Our local river is overflowing and has flooded the adjacent banks.
I mean how long will it take to dry the ground out? Is this because of global warming/climate change?
How are the insurance companies even going to be able to make a start on repairs when we're still getting so much rain?

I hate this weather. Am sick of being stuck indoors, it's like Groundhog Day.

lynsey91 · 26/02/2020 07:51

I am absolutely sick and tired of it. I can't remember the last day that was completely dry.

For the last couple of weeks we have also had the strong winds. Everything blowing round the garden including our wheelie bins. Battling strong winds and rain every time I walk the dogs and then coming back with me and 2 dogs caked in mud!

I suffer from SAD and have been really bad this winter. I so hope we get a decent summer and not a washout like last year

userxx · 26/02/2020 07:52

Roll on Summer! I can feel my mood lifting already

It was light when I left work yesterday, what a difference it made! I actually felt like stopping off at the supermarket.

LucheroTena · 26/02/2020 08:00

It’s been raining most days since September. Hardly any crisp or cold days just mild and wet and grey. It was like this before that really hot summer the year before last. One extreme followed by another. its hard work.

MistyIsland · 26/02/2020 08:01

It’s driving me batty.

I was on a dog walk the other day and bumped into a farmer who I chatted to, he said since last September we’ve had 12 days when it hasn’t rained 12 thinking about it he’s probably right.

Half term was a wash out, I think we had 2 mornings where it didn’t rain, parts of the local area are flooded which makes travelling to schools and walking the dogs hard. Kids can’t play outside! We’ve had maybe 3 decent frosts since Winter started. The garden is a mud bath. Everything just had a damp feel to it. The wind has horrible, it’s blown things into the fence which has damaged them and will now need replacing. I’m talking stuff we normally leave outside. It’s blown over and broken some of my pot plants so I need to get some more pots.

I have noticed it’s starting to get lighter on a morning tho. Can’t wait for some better weather!

Equimum · 26/02/2020 08:04

Me!!!!
We are the South-East, and yes, lots of flowers are coming g through early, but we are also having ridiculous amounts of rain. Our cellar has flooded so many times this winter, when it’s only ever happened once or twice before. We went for a walk at the weekend when we had a brief dry prior, but the local spring had washed the little foot bridge away, there was deep, wet mud around a gateway that my DH slid over in and everywhere was just so muddy, the kids couldn’t walk (either sibling or sliding).

Roll on drier weather!

Thenextstorm · 26/02/2020 08:15

I love winter, but this is not winter, It's a strange cold and rainy season. I have grape hyacinths flowering in my garden.

Agree this IS winter, all that guff about crispy, clear days, you need to live in Canada for that.

I'm very worried about all the rain, I bet anything this is the wettest winter on record. The poor farmers must be tearing their hair out. Happy that the reservoirs are full to the brim though.

Alsohuman · 26/02/2020 08:19

Every dog walk round here is like the Somme. Absolutely sick of it

That's a bit over dramatic isn't it ?!

No, it’s quite literally true. The mud is ankle deep, sticky and glutinous. You get your foot stuck if you’re not careful.

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/02/2020 08:23

We have had wind and rain for months and I must admit I've had enough of it. I want to plan a walk, can't think of one I'm fit enough for at the moment that would be safe and sure to be clear of flooded fields.

MissCharleyP · 26/02/2020 08:24

I am sick to fucking death of it. I wish I could emigrate, I really do. Sick to death of endless rain, wind and grey skies. I remember when we had frosty winters with crisp, cold days, not this endless depressing gloom. I work outside as well (but covered with a roof) and I long for the days when I don’t need my thermals on, it’s awful.

Likethebattle · 26/02/2020 08:27

West coast of Scotland here and I’m sick of rain as it’s every single day. Today had the added bonus of a free ice rink. I nearly decked it 4 times on my way to the station!

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 26/02/2020 08:32

It's the wettest winter on record after the hottest summer on record.

The extremes we've been warned about are already here.

dottiedodah · 26/02/2020 08:40

We are on the South Coast, so about as far South as you can go without a boat ! The last 3 weekends have been utterly miserable and wet .Really affects my mood I find .Get wet just popping to Tesco ! The dog hates it too .River path here flooded both ways . Feel very sorry for the poor people who are flooded out on TV as well . Looks sunny today anyway .

dottiedodah · 26/02/2020 08:44

TheNextStorm Our friends live in Ontario .And when we spoke with them the other day, had to go outside for 2 hours with the Snowblower in minus 19 temperatures ! Beautiful house and scenery but very cold!

TheLadyAnneNeville · 26/02/2020 08:49

I don’t remember anything like this. The constant rain. I used to live in Herefordshire and would anxiously glance out of the window, thinking if this carries on, the fire brigade will be here, pumping out our cellars again. Nightmare.

This though, is unprecedented I think. And it’s awful. Can only imagine how my former friends neighbours are feeling.

elliejjtiny · 26/02/2020 08:49

I hate the rain. My garden is like a swamp at the moment and every time we go out the dc end up with mud on their trousers and coats.

Emmuvva · 26/02/2020 09:06

Yes, it is global warming/climate change. Extremes of weather have been predicted by all the models of likely outcomes. Expect it to get much worse, given these are the effects of carbon released into the atmosphere many years ago, and we're doing so little to stop it.

VeganCow · 26/02/2020 09:11

Sick of it here too.Had a lovely breezy day at weekend so hung washing out for the first time since last Autumn. Went for a 2 hour dog walk and came back to the washing wetter than when I hung it out. Had to put it through a spin and it ended up on the indoor drier anyway. Total waste of time and effort.

Toria70 · 26/02/2020 09:20

We live in a rural village almost cut off by the river Severn. Our normal work commute is 30 minutes, on average now it's taking around 90 minutes and with no end in sight as the roads were briefly opened but the river is still rising. The roads we're having to use aren't mean to take the volume of traffic that they now are, and the highlight of the morning was using a river bridge that is one lane only with traffic lights and traffic from both sides blocking it so no one moved at all for around 15 minutes Hmm

I told DH this morning in a very ranty phone call that we are moving this summer and it's not up for debate. This is the 3rd time this winter that the b road we use for access to work has been closed for a long period of time. I appreciate that our home isn't flooded as so many have been in our area but this is getting f*cking ridiculous. When we were kids, the river was constantly being dredged. That has stopped and now we have consistent major flooding but no one seems to be connecting the two.

derxa · 26/02/2020 09:21

Our poor sheep are wading through mud. Borders Scotland here.
Flowers to all the farmers on here.

lastqueenofscotland · 26/02/2020 09:23

I genuinely can’t remember the last day it didn’t rain.
I’m SO fed up of it.

CornishPasties · 26/02/2020 09:24

Im finding ot miserable, it really is like groundhog day. I have an almost 11 week old and its rained every day hrs been alive. The poor bugger wont know what's hit him when he goes outside and its not wet.

lynsey91 · 26/02/2020 09:28

Most of the fields near us are under water. I feel so sorry for the farmers and for the animals in the fields.

Yesterday we drove about 10 miles to see a friend and apart from all the fields underwater and lots of water on the roads, 2 roads were closed off because of flooding and we had to do diversions

Hingeandbracket · 26/02/2020 09:28

I notice that the "I love winter" posters have been very quiet lately.

I love winter, or more precisely the fact that we have a broadly temperate climate and that is isn't too hot.

This amount of rain isn't totally unknown - in the 14 years I've lived in my house I'd say this was the second wettest season.

I am in the Midlands not the hot and sunny south where everything is wonderful and it never rains :)

DollyTots · 26/02/2020 09:29

I’m a winter lover and even I’ve had enough. I think it’s the first time I’m actually looking forward to summer. Then I’ll be moaning about how hot it is and balance will be restored.
