Silly things that make you emotional for no reason

About 6 months ago driving along with car full of my daughter and her friends and Shotgun by George Ezra came on radio. Kids were all singing along at top of their voices and I did think at the time it was a lovely moment- but just heard it again today and remembered kids singing along and it made me get really emotional and properly cry. Really odd 😂

Ah, that's lovely, not odd at all! I get emotional looking back at things, like my son holding my hand during sad parts in films (would still do this age 12), lots of unexpected bonding moments from being a single parent. Treasure them. Memories and kids.Smile

Working animals, such as guide dogs and sniffer dogs at airports. They're so patient and dutiful. Makes me well up every time I see them doing their jobs.

fivesecondrule · 27/02/2020 10:31

In Tangled when that guard runs in and just nods to the King and Queen... every... bloody... time!

moodybum · 27/02/2020 14:00

Odd things... I cried at a vanish ad once when I was pregnant, the stain time challenge one... Blush they got the stain out lol

Oh and when an ambulance goes past with flashing lights, the fact we still get out of the way for strangers in need, respectful

hellcarryingahandbag · 27/02/2020 14:03

My love for my grandparents, sometimes I look at them and just start crying because I love them so much

firstimemamma · 27/02/2020 14:04

Call the midwife, adverts with babies in - in fact anything baby related!

Old dears holding hands in the street.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 27/02/2020 14:05

I welled up at the elephants at the zoo last week. The daddy was walking around with the baby all protective and the baby slipped a bit in the mud and you could tell the dad was concerned - he was fussing around the baby. They were gorgeous.

Also youngest dd8 (Of 4 dc’s) growing up so fast - we had taken her on a special day out as the others were in school. Me and dh kept looking at one another in a wistful kind of way - We know we’re on limited time doing stuff like that now!

pooopypants · 27/02/2020 14:28

Cars moving for ambulances - YES!

Crowds of people doing something - think minute silence, cheering the last person over the finish line of a marathon or similar, people generally doing stuff for others

Got a little teary earlier at the sheer number of people in the blood donor centre - they'd all taken time from their day to help a stranger who they'll never meet. There must have been 20+ people there, and I was only there for an hour!

I think, to sum it up, it's people doing things for others - there are absolutely tonnes of bastards in the world, but tonnes of people who'd give you their last penny too

heymammi · 27/02/2020 15:30

Reading this thread made me well up 😭

iheartislesofwight · 27/02/2020 15:49

leaving on the ferry when we stay on i.o.w, we spend a lot of time there and leaving always chokes me up Blush thankfully we are moving there in november, thank goodness i just can't wait, sooo excited Smile

ComeOnGordon · 27/02/2020 15:50

Flash mobs - every single time. They had one at school and dc banned me from spectating in case I was caught sobbing

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 27/02/2020 15:51

Gogglebox. There's something about people across the country sharing an experience despite their diversity. Tucked up in their homes.
I don't really know, but it affects me.

Sparklyring · 27/02/2020 15:54

The end of Nanny McPhee when Evangeline is walking down the aisle with Nanny McPhee. Absolutely no idea why!

Tighnabruaich · 27/02/2020 16:00

The usual things get me -
Bambi's mother being shot;

Rhett Butler at the end of Gone With The Wind when he's finally had enough of Scarlett and she, too late, realises that Ashley was only ever a fantasy and Rhett was the real man for her;

The death of Beth March;

David Copperfield walking all the way to Dover with no shoes when he is just a small boy;

Too many - I have to stop or I'll be blubbing!

Mummypigisalwaysright · 27/02/2020 16:04

There's a children's book called 'theres an ouch in my pouch' and the ending of that gets me every time. Also the end to the singing mermaid by Julia Donaldson. Don't know why.

Mummypigisalwaysright · 27/02/2020 16:05

Also another children's book called 'the empty stocking'. Children's books make me cry.

CorianderLord · 27/02/2020 16:08

Old men eating alone Blush I know it's patronising but I'm always worried their wife is dead

Bloodybridget · 27/02/2020 16:08

I just re-read a bit of Noel Streatfeild's The Growing Summer yesterday, and this thread reminded me of the end when Great Aunt Dymphna takes the children to the airport, and walks away abruptly without saying goodbye to them. A real lump in throat moment!

hoochymamgu · 27/02/2020 16:11

The thought of all those little boats rescuing the soldiers at Dunkirk...

The end of The Railway Children when Bobby sees her father in the platform. “Daddy, oh my Daddy” It gets me every single time. I saw the book in a shop once, turned to the last page and burst into tears. I’m welling up just writing this.

ohnoitsnot · 27/02/2020 16:53

School stuff every single time . When my kids were in primary I cried at every single play / assembly , like proper sobbing . Even now when they are senior school pretty much every meeting makes me well up . My kids are used to it but always mortified .

Fuckfuckbollocks · 27/02/2020 17:01

The start of a musical or concert. I've no idea why but the music starting up always makes me well up. I've googled why before because I find it so weird!
Also flashmobs, babies being born on one born etc and proposals

Certain songs make me emotional. Elton John's Your Song for example.
