Hen do tees and leotards

GonnaNeedANameChange · 25/02/2020 09:55

I'm going on a hen do to Ibiza and the sister of the bride is organising it (yet not going as she will have just had a baby).

She arranging tee shirts and leotards for a pool party.

Now I'm plus size, every one else is a size8/10.

Aibu to just say sorry but I'll be so uncomfortable and self conscious that I just don't want to wear them?

I'm aware I'm then going to be the odd one out and draw more attention to myself.

I'm quite happy in a sucky ineryou cozzi etc but these will not be.

BLOODY HEN DO'S

I’d be sacking that hen do off.

I hate organised shite like this

Ginfordinner · 25/02/2020 10:55

MN is a bit judgey about a group of women wanting to do more than have a packet of pork scratchings in a barn somewhere for a hens

And rightly so, given that all the hen party posts are always about going abroad/spending £££££/wearing ridiculous outfits etc.

Posters don't post about sensible hen dos where there are no unrealistic expectations because there is no AIBU.

Ellmau · 25/02/2020 10:57

"Sorry InconsiderateOrganiser, it looks as if RubbishOutfit doesn't come in my size so this isn't going to work for me."

Instead of swimming costumes? So this is a pool party where you don't actually swim? What a waste of a pool.

You could wear your suckyon costume underneath and cut up the Tshirt and wear like a jacket over it?

WingingItSince1973 · 25/02/2020 10:58

Wow super tacky! Leotards? Do people over the age of 8 still wear them? 🤣 Agree with pp saying the tees from China will not be the size shes expecting! Find a gorgeous kafftan and poolside shoes. I would suggest a sash, at a push because I hate these kind of things. It's a massive cliche and very chavvy. Sorry if offend anyone 😆

GonnaNeedANameChange · 25/02/2020 11:02

No I agree, it's awful chavvy and not like the bride at all.

I've had a few read on the group but no1s yet replied. I'll keep you updated!

Straycatstrut · 25/02/2020 11:02

I'm a size 10 and I wouldn't wear the get up to a pool party in ibiza. I'm 32, have two kids and I'd just feel ridiculous. I know people who do it and seem to love it though but I'd rather leave them to it!

Don't feel forced into it.

OhCaptain · 25/02/2020 11:05

It’s not “rightly so” it’s just a difference in opinion and taste.

And this is from someone who went to dinner for her “hens” without a sash or plastic willy in sight!

TheFaerieQueene · 25/02/2020 11:05

It’s just more bloody landfill. I wish people would think about the environmental impact of their funny crap. OP I would take the moral high ground and say you won’t wear it because of the issues re carbon footprint and land fill.

nonetcurtains · 25/02/2020 11:06

A size 14 from China will probably fit a 6 year old girl at best. So its unlikely any of them will end up wearing them
quite like made by said child's 10 year old sibling

Ariela · 25/02/2020 11:07

I'd be asking 'Do we actually think (bride) will be comfortable with this?' & 'can we just stick to a decent long Tshirt such as (find a nice one in big enough size)'

Nowayorhighway · 25/02/2020 11:08

So so tacky, all of it is my idea of literal Hell including the venue...

Just be honest and say you don’t feel comfortable wearing that, I bet you’re not alone even if the other women are a size 8.

TheOrigBrave · 25/02/2020 11:08

Leotard? What The Actual Heck!

cooldarkroom · 25/02/2020 11:08

you wouldn't be allowed in the pool with T shirt where I live, unless lycra,
I would go on the group WhatsApp, & say, "You are having a laugh ! seriously won't do this"

Yesmate · 25/02/2020 11:18

@cooldarkroom the T-shirt’s will be for travelling I imagine. That’s normally how it goes so you are all as a recognisable unit in the airport.

Daffodil55 · 25/02/2020 11:19

Hen party outfits and hen parties in general just make me roll my eyes. Sorry to those who find them hilarious and all jolly good fun and all that but I think it is all just silly but then up until now I have only been an observer of the rollicking and raucous groups of squealing females invading my city centre every weekend.

However! I am now cordially invited to a hen party next year and it will be in Ibiza! I love Ibiza but this bride to be is 30 years younger than me and so are several more of the invited ladies. I have not accepted formally yet as it is not fixed and official but it will happen. No outfit mentioned but I have a feeling I will politely decline the whole trip.

In my city I have memories of walking along during a Saturday afternoon carrying my bags of shopping, only to be confronted with half a dozen or more women dressed in Madonna outfits complete with conical bra contraptions, all the while screeching at the tops of their voices LIKE A VIRGIN and thinking they were fantastic to see and hear.

Leotards? er no thank you

GonnaNeedANameChange · 25/02/2020 11:24

@daffodil55 I darent even tell you the actual "theme" (it's actually way too outing)!

OP posts:
OhCaptain · 25/02/2020 11:26

Aw please do!!! 😂

Yesmate · 25/02/2020 11:37

@GonnaNeedANameChange no one wants to be the first to reply to agree with you 😂
They are all high-fiving you in their minds right now

PinkMonkeyBird · 25/02/2020 11:39

Like @BlackWhitePurple...I'm in the Fake My Own Death category for this type of event.

I'm a size 8 and wouldn't wear that kind of shit. I don't even wear a bikini!

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 25/02/2020 11:40

@GonnaNeedANameChange you can't drop that bombshell and say no more, come onnnnnnnnnnn

GonnaNeedANameChange · 25/02/2020 11:44

The MOH (who's not attending) has just replied saying fair dos, we will have a final vote on fave outfits by next week and go from there.

Someone has messaged me separate from the group and are in agreement! Shame she's not 100% coming though.

OP posts:
RhymingRabbit3 · 25/02/2020 11:44

Sounds like a tacky nightmare, well done for speaking up.

OhCaptain · 25/02/2020 11:48

In fairness, doesn’t sound like she’s pushing anything!

GonnaNeedANameChange · 25/02/2020 11:52

I think it will be fine, I'm quite good at making things lighthearted and being able to laugh at myself so if I'm the odd one out so be it. I'd rather that then feel self conscious!

OP posts:
MatterhornMadness · 25/02/2020 11:53

I'm a size 8 and I would never wear a leotard!
I desperately need to know the theme now....
