To think if you don't give your kids pancakes

Tomorrow that is really mean!

Unless you never partake in pancake /shrove Tuesday,

If you do, and just 'can't be bothered' you're a mean mum/dad..

Have seen people who can perfectly afford it saying nah won't be bothered making kids any pancakes or giving them something sweet.

I don't really like savoury pancakes, and every recipe I've ever tried are savoury. Also they always end up too oily, or am I not supposed to fry them in oil. Someone give me a good, sweet pancake recipe.

AmelieTaylor · 25/02/2020 00:06

Don't bother with the tossing thing

Wash your mouth out!,

The tossing is as much fun as the eating.

yatapina · 25/02/2020 00:06

I'm shit at making pancakes.

So much judgement over a bit of (let's face it, disappointing) batter 😂

GreenTulips · 25/02/2020 00:10

My husband would agree with you! Grin

Leaannb · 25/02/2020 00:15

So since I’m being ‘mean” feel free to come over at 5 am to make sure my kids get some ridiculous pancakes. Don’t be late my 5 yo has to catch a bus at 615 am so don’t be late

GreenTulips · 25/02/2020 00:16

Pancakes are the time not breakfast

GreenTulips · 25/02/2020 00:16

Tea time

yatapina · 25/02/2020 00:24

You can make them for mine then as I'll be at work until 11pm 😂

I didn’t make it past this TBH. Two spoons of flour, an egg and a splash of milk is hardly pushing the boat out is it?

Pancakes don’t have to be sweet. Creamy chicken and mushroom wrapped in a crepe hits the spot 😉

FortunesFave · 25/02/2020 00:32

God I forgot! I'm in Oz now and they don't make such a fuss here...I'm going out later to get lemons and icecream!

??? Who said pancakes have to be served for breakfast? Pancakes are either filled with savoury stuff and served at tea, or filled with banana and chocolate, or syrup (or alternatives, depending what’s in the cupboard) as dessert here

abitoflight · 25/02/2020 00:50

Just me and DH tonight for dinner and we will have a big pile of pancakes with sugar and lemon juice. No main course, Just the pancakes

Leaannb · 25/02/2020 01:01

@TeensArghhhh We don’t eat breakfast food for supper where I’m from. But once again feel free to come at 4 pm to fix some some for the 5 yo, back at 6pm for the 12 yo and the 17 yo gets off at 11pm from school and College classes

Oliversmumsarmy · 25/02/2020 01:03

We have never done pancakes.

I don’t like pancakes and don’t really have a Christian heritage so it has always passed me by and dc are not fussed.

It is something that Dp would know about but although he might make mutterings about pancakes it has never transferred into actually doing them.

Dc have had them at other people’s houses if they are around on the day.

My children have also never done Halloween

I must be the really meanest mother in the world

What makes you think pancakes are breakfast food??

If your kids want pancakes I’m sure you can make them yourself at a time/times suitable - the same as everyone else. If you don’t want to then don’t. Nobody cares... 🤷🏻‍♀️

Indiemeg · 25/02/2020 05:01

I think it’s nice to keep our traditions alive. As a dc mum always made pancakes with a choice of orange or lemon segments to squeeze over with sugar and the fun of tossing them with varying results! Carried on with my dd.Have to admit, didn’t always feel like the bother but there would have been an outcry if not.Dd at uni this year and she’s making them for herself 😃

Indiemeg · 25/02/2020 05:06

We never ate Shrove Tuesday pancakes at breakfast time, very different concept to the American pancake.

Lovelydovey · 25/02/2020 05:08

We had pancakes yesterday because I’m working late today - is that ok with you?

Juanbablo · 25/02/2020 05:17

We do look forward to pancakes for dinner on shrove Tuesday. Ds2 is disappointed he can't have them for breakfast, lunch and dinner though! I suspect I will be the lucky one having pancakes twice. I work in a pre school and we will be making pancakes with the children in the morning.

Juliette20 · 25/02/2020 05:20

I feel slightly sorry for people who think pancakes are breakfast food only.

I will be making them, but tomorrow, as I have to travel for work today.

Thinkingaboutsummer2020 · 25/02/2020 05:20

Why would giving your child something sweet be a bother? Confused

NotGenerationAlpha · 25/02/2020 05:22

DH and I are kiwis and we have never heard of shrove Tuesday until we came here. We aren’t religious and we don’t do lent. In fact we saw a pancake day sign in the supermarket and DH didn’t know it’s linked to Easter Grin. We have pancakes often so I don’t see how it’s mean not to do shrove Tuesday.

Besides we don’t have time to cook pancakes on a Tuesday morning,

NotGenerationAlpha · 25/02/2020 05:23

And pancakes for dinner is just yuck

Yesterdayforgotten · 25/02/2020 05:23

I made my pancake batter last night so it will be all ready and rested for today. Have a selection of toppings in ready such as strawberries, fresh lemon and sugar, nutella & banana, golden syrup. Tend to make them plain and do toppings for the thin ones. I do blueberry, choc chip etc in the american ones on a weekend sometimes.
