To think if you don't give your kids pancakes

Tomorrow that is really mean!

Unless you never partake in pancake /shrove Tuesday,

If you do, and just 'can't be bothered' you're a mean mum/dad..

Have seen people who can perfectly afford it saying nah won't be bothered making kids any pancakes or giving them something sweet.

I also hate my child so will not be making them tomorrow... Gleefully on my way to work at 6am l will chortle at my level of evilness and at the shiteiness of my parenting in not awaking DC at 5am to make them pancakes....

Ragwort · 24/02/2020 22:01

We do have a strong Christian Faith but I don't think that is at all relevant to whether or not we want to eat pancakes tomorrow Confused, don't particularly like them, nor does anyone in my family, if that makes 'mean mum' so be it.

Rosehipbubbles · 24/02/2020 22:02

We have pancakes all the time so may not bother tomorrow - for crepes Delia's basic pancake recipe is really good - I think it's the water and melted butter. www.deliaonline.com/recipes/main-ingredient/eggs-recipes/basic-pancakes

GothamProtector · 24/02/2020 22:02

Oh Fuck!!

RocketFire · 24/02/2020 22:02

and whats the 'giving them something sweet' bollocks??

rosesandcashmere · 24/02/2020 22:02

I work weird shifts and also don't believe in god: we won't be having lent so I can make pancakes whenever. YABU

Bezalelle · 24/02/2020 22:02

Different religion here, so no Pancake Tuesday! We have so many festivals in our faith though, all with special foods, so future DC won't miss out.

Zombiemum1946 · 24/02/2020 22:03

If your kids are that bothered ,buy a packet of ready made, top with fruit and cream. Therefore no sugar, no cooking, no stress, but still a sweet treat. I only found out about shrove Tuesday because of Blue Peter. The look on my mother's face and the muttering of bloody blue Peter, was enough to stop us asking more than once.

rosesandcashmere · 24/02/2020 22:03

And yes to delia whenever the mood takes me. Always with lemon and sugar. Poor kiddies 🙄

TalaxuArmiuna · 24/02/2020 22:03

we make pancakes regularly so the special thing about pancake day is that we have pancakes for breakfast, pancakes for supper and then if we can manage them, more pancakes for pudding. but not judgy about non- pancake-eating families. tbh I feel it's a little hypocritical of us to celebrate pancake day quite so enthusiastically given that we have no intention of observing lent, and pancake day is supposed to be a last hurrah before the discipline of lent.

AriadnesFilament · 24/02/2020 22:03

Excellent. Another thing I can put on the list of ‘reasons other people think I’m crap’ 🙄

WwfLeopard · 24/02/2020 22:04

I do pancakes pretty often, it doesn’t seem like a “thing” or special in our house, it was looked forward to when I was growing up

pelirocco123 · 24/02/2020 22:04

I must have been really evil then .cant stand the bloody things and the mess and the faff ...I used to hope they didnt realise what day it was, got away with it quite a few times

Ellisandra · 24/02/2020 22:06

What an odd and mixed up OP.
So if you don’t do it, that’s fine.
But if you don’t do it because they’re sweet, you’re criticising us.
And same - criticising if we can’t be bothered.

Not all kids give a shit about pancakes, OP.
And it’s fine not to bother, because you can’t be bothered.

Personally, I think if you’re following it up with a priest marking your forehead the next day, then feasting on pancakes is cultural appropriation Wink

I will do pancakes, or not do pancakes, as I wish. I don’t care for your criticism.

yatapina · 24/02/2020 22:06

I had no idea that pancake Day was religious...

We probably won't manage because I'm working a split shift tomorrow which means 1 hour with the kids after school before heading back to work. Can't say anyone is particularly bothered here tbh!

Ellisandra · 24/02/2020 22:07

@Rosehipbubbles soooooooooo true Grin

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 24/02/2020 22:07

So, are we all walking around with black crosses on our foreheads on Wednesday? Not eating meat for the next 6 weeks?

Well, I will. We don't make a big deal of Shrove Tuesday though. We will probably have pancakes but that depends on me not forgetting it's Tuesday tomorrow (there was a change in routine last week and that can throw the days of the week off for a while, so I may think it's Monday or Thursday or summat.

I don't care what other people do, that's for them to worry about. Surely there are more worthwhile things to get angry about than adults choosing not to eat pancakes?

theThreeofWeevils · 24/02/2020 22:07

Mine are in their 20s and have survived
I hate them.

Me too, luv, me too.

CherryPavlova · 24/02/2020 22:07

Unless you are a Christian, Shrove Tuesday is pretty meaningless. I suspect most parents in U.K. couldn’t explain why we have Pancakes on a particular day. It’s certainly not mean for people of other faiths not to make them for their children.
Freshly cooked pancakes with sugar and lemon are delicious though. We shall have them.

AlexaShutUp · 24/02/2020 22:08

I usually do them but we won't have time tomorrow, so not going to bother. It's no big deal.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 24/02/2020 22:09

I had no idea that pancake Day was religious...

It isn't exactly religious in itself. But Lent starts the next day, so it was a way of using up ingredients before the fasting started.

RocketFire · 24/02/2020 22:09

so where is the, oh so concerned, OP??

pelirocco123 · 24/02/2020 22:09

And while I am being judged I never bought mine easter eggs nor to i buy them for my GC
They get more then enough from other people and never eat them all ! ..

Cheeseontoast4 · 24/02/2020 22:09

My mother avoided doing most things that could be regarded as a treat when I was a kid ... so I’ve always made pancakes for mine - I was really hoping it would get overlooked tomorrow though so I could postpone it to a slightly less busy evening
