How do I find out what my Grandmother died of?

My Mum had a troubled childhood at the age of 45 she finally broke free from a toxic relationship with her parents. My Mum genetically is just like her Mother both having cancer very young along with other diseases, she died estranged from us in 2015. My Mum recently has had heart issues, we know my grandmother also had heart issues and I want to know what she died of in a desperate bid to possibly help my Mum anyway we can! How do I find out this? I dont know where to start!

Can you get a copy of her death certificate?

Putyourdamnshoeson · 23/02/2020 18:48

Get death certificate

Pastaforlunch · 23/02/2020 19:46

If you join ancestry.com you can order a copy of anyone's death certificate, costs about £25.

orangejuicer · 23/02/2020 19:49

You can order it without joining ancestry.com. You need the reference then you order it from the records people - www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate

You still need to pay just not to ancestry.

Are you looking in the right quarter of the year?
Look at your mums birth certificate and make sure that your gran's first name/surname is correct.
I wasted lot of time doing family tree looking for my g grandmas birth and should have checked her mothers name on gran's birth cert (and not gone by what gran told me was her mothers name/nickname surname?)

If your family were estranged, could she have married again or reverted to her maiden name?

Try local Registry Office in your grandmother's area, I paid about £10.
