Shit birthday

I don't care about birthdays usually but this year has been really shit. I got divorced, lost my job, had to move to another county and have been unwell and was just gutted that my son just totally ignored my birthday. I've not had a call from him or a card or anything.
I'm on my own. I don't have anything to do or anywhere to go and I just feel really hurt.
They obviously must have remembered at some point this afternoon as I got an impersonal gif on WhatsApp doesn't say happy birthday or anything.
No phone call or email. We normally get on fine. I feel properly taken for granted and really disappointed.
How hard is it to send a card?

Because most men I know need a reminder to buy a card or preset. Sad but true. My brother and dad (and son) were/are the same - the assumption was that mum/sil would do the honours.

There is no 'honour' in doing the boring grunt work for a male partner who has somehow managed to convince his wife that he has very specific learning difficulties.

Do any of these men have jobs? Educational qualifications? Drive cars? Travel? But are somehow incapable of buying a birthday card?

Utterly pathetic and embarrassing. I can't believe anyone is still defending this regressive 1950s bullshit in 2020.

Well, you know what to do when his birthday comes round.
Now. You've missed the shops, so you can't go out and buy flowers or something nice for yourself. So put on your coat and get out of the house, even if it's just to the cinema to see something nice like Emma. Buy yourself a nice bar of chocolate or a glass of wine to bring in. If nobody's treating you, you have to treat yourself!

I used to brood if my husband etc forgot my birthday or were too lazy to buy me a card etc until I discovered ........ buy what I want and thank him for it later x
He’s so kind and considerate - now and he doesn’t realise it ! and I get to do what I really want
I started by reminding him , putting an date alarm on his phone & daughters set for annual reminder has really helped
He’s even buying cards and flowers now so he’s getting b better.
Joking aside it’s your birthday don’t rely on others to have a lovely day be proactive and vocal. I discovered people aren’t mind readers
This year was an especially lovely birthday I’ve been to the theatre , out for lunch and have a spa day coming up , he never knew he was so generous !!,!,!

email him a repeating appointment for your birthday, set with a weeks' reminder, then he won;t forget next year.
