To think the male American Airlines passenger punching the reclined seat should be charged with assault if legally possible.

I have watched the video of the man continually punching the seat occupied by Wendi Williams who had positioned it to recline. I am totally appalled that she was not given assistance when she drew the flight attendants attention to her predicament. This mans behaviour was totally unacceptable. I find it hard to fathom his behaviour and really feel a bit disturbed by it. I don't think he would have acted this way had it been a man in front... Am I being unfair in thinking this?

@Ihatemyseleffordoingthis

Anyone who reclines their seat, tbh is an inconsiderate arse.

I guess you travel oblong haul flights upright at ALL times then!! Hmm

FieldOfFlameAndHeather · 22/02/2020 19:27

If airlines didn’t want passengers to recline their seats they wouldn’t make them reclinable. Apart from during the meal service it’s pretty standard to recline ones seat. I don’t understand why people get so worked up about it. Recline yours too then any space you lost is immediately regained. Simple.

bitheby · 22/02/2020 19:27

I was on a National Express coach last year sitting at VCS and the man in front reclined his seat with such force that my coffee spilled all over my lap, which scalded me and left me wet for most of the three hour journey.

It's really selfish to not at least check that the person behind you doesn't have food or a drink before you recline.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

For the record, I yelled out in shock and pain and told him what he'd done. He apologised and
I moved seats. He shouldn't have reacted with force but I can understand. Neither of them come out of this well.

SiousieSoo · 22/02/2020 19:29

@category12 I'll be sure to invalidate everything that I see on the basis of a one second smirk. Have you never experienced an involuntary and incongruous emotion or expression? I despair

Reading more of it, I can only assume this thread is a joke 😂😂

ChicChicChicChiclana · 22/02/2020 19:29

Absolutely no need to recline a seat on a short flight. Woman was an arse so I can't dredge up the empathy I would normally have in a woman v man stand-off.

HappyHammy · 22/02/2020 19:30

Maybe they dont care or dont want to drag this through the media, if she takes the airline or him to court then they will deal with it, not everyone wants or feels the need to be in the spotlight .

Lipperfromchipper · 22/02/2020 19:32

On long*

category12 · 22/02/2020 19:32

You said earlier in the thread Please point out where she's smirking. Sounds like nonsense you cannot see her entire. Do you have magical powers or something?

No, just the power of sight. It could be an "involuntary" facial expression, or she could have been on the deliberate wind-up.

GabsAlot · 22/02/2020 19:33

if u recline i dont mind just not at meal times its rude and i doubt i'll have much room in economy if someone does it while im eating

they both look like dicks

SiousieSoo · 22/02/2020 19:34

@category12. I actually cannot see a smirk. I looked and can't see her entire face. Have you seen her interview on cnn. I suggest you do.

@ChicChicChicChiclana again as I have said up thread there are literally about 10 reasons I can think of at the drop of a hat that would warrant someone feeling tired and wanting to recline their seat!! Confused

SiousieSoo · 22/02/2020 19:36

@Hypergear clearly you are a sage then... Well done.

The woman was being a twat just look at the smug look on her face when she was filming dilibertly inconsiderate and rude.
He was left sat there which just inches between his face and the back of the seat
I'm sure she was asked but didn't care .At 6ft 4 very tight on space and he was not puching the seat.
She knew full well he was squashed but wanted as MUCH room as possible for herself regardless of the impact on other people .
He was a big guy and a punch would of been a punch not a push as shown .
She did not but aggravate the situation even when she knew he was eating she had to be ask to pull her seat it it's just basic manners .
If I was her I would be very concerned about underlying health issue if that amount of impact resulted in whip lash or of course she could just be fucking lying about that.

MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2020 19:37

He has a terrible seat, no doubt. It would be awful to have the non-reclining seat.

SiousieSoo · 22/02/2020 19:38

@MarshaBrady. Yes he has a terrible seat but he needs to take his ire out on the airline

"Scarletblaize" I've read a number of articles about it but thank you for your condescending and factually incorrect post.

G5000 · 22/02/2020 19:40

People do realise that short haul flight might be someone's last leg after travelling 24 hours from other side of the world? Or maybe someone woke up at 3AM and needs to go straight into business meetings? Not all short hauls are charters to Spain for your annual holiday.

itsgettingweird · 22/02/2020 19:41

He wasn't punching the seat.

He was continuously rocking it. Yes, out of sheer anger from his body language. And probably hoping she'd give up and set seat up straight.

It doesn't look like it reclines back that far anyway.

I don't think we have the full story as the lady says she was told to stop her behaviour or be removed and was handed a document about her behaviour.

So I don't know who started it but it was definitely 2 strong willed people who weren't going to back down!

MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2020 19:42

He does I agree op, although they wouldn’t do anything I guess. There’s not much of an excuse for badgering the women.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 22/02/2020 19:42

"People do realise that short haul flight might be someone's last leg after travelling 24 hours from other side of the world? Or maybe someone woke up at 3AM and needs to go straight into business meetings? "

As might the person being reclined upon.

SiousieSoo · 22/02/2020 19:43

@G500 Oh don't let that get in the way of somebody being disproportionately aggressive over a seat being reclined will you.

OP posts:
Lipperfromchipper · 22/02/2020 19:44

@G5000 I’m starting to think that most ppl commenting on this thread have NO IDEA of the reasons why ppl may be on a flight outside of “I’m going on holiday” HmmConfused

RocketFire · 22/02/2020 19:44

most people on this thread are defending the man

interesting
