DH has invited -

A Danish couple (I’ve never met them before)
A man who I’m told has two wives (but neither wife joining us apparently)
His cousin and his new-ish wife as they just happen to be passing through for one night only, but they have nothing to do with the other people (both eat raw food in the main, vegan and no fat)
A couple from Saudi who don’t live here

Any ideas please as I’m not in the mood this weekend particularly?

I thought of doing a vege tagine and I can make the bread and some other bits and serve in an artistic way with rose petals etc so it looks quite interesting and not just plonked on the plate and like a free for all. I’m not going formal because the relatives wouldn’t really fit in with that and also I’m not in the mood,

Many thanks!

Veg tagine sounds beaut

Pitta and dips with?

Grumpbum123 · 21/02/2020 17:02

Oh dear lord that’s tricky. Could you just do a platter of different veg, dips, bread, meats and cheeses um and salads?

cultkid · 21/02/2020 17:04

Sushi also and vegetarian sushi?

Tagine sounds good you could do two tagines

Cous cous with pomegranate

IVflytrap · 21/02/2020 17:05

Isnt your DH going to be sorting the food, seeing as he invited them?

ghostyslovesheets · 21/02/2020 17:08

Yup I’m with IV - let HIM sort it he arranged it

Glittercats · 21/02/2020 17:11

I could just order a load of sushi Grin

Glad people think they tagine idea is ok. Yes I could go a meat one as well. At least I’m confident with that and I can make the dips etc.

DH will mainly be doing “business” apparently, while hurling around on his bike somewhere.

A couple of curries (chicken and chickpea/lentil) with naans, mango chutney and popadums.

Vegetarian goulash with butter beans and chunks of crusty bread.

Glittercats · 21/02/2020 17:43

Thanks, I make a good curry, but not sure about goulash, or exactly what’s in that.

Your husband's going to sort the food surely? He won't have time for his bike will he?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/02/2020 10:21

I would go with a veg tagine and mezze approach.

Eg
Flatbreads
Houmous
Salads
Roasted peppers
Olives

Buy as much as you can ready made to cut down your workload.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/02/2020 10:25

If the vegan couple avoid fat put the salad dressings on the side.

You could get some feta.
Watermelon - my North African DH could live off the stuff

Ukholidaysaregreat · 22/02/2020 10:52

That is a random bunch of guests. I would go with the mumsnet classics - pom bears and cutted up pear and hope they are in on the joke.
