AIBU to ask a probably silly plumbing question?

Posting here for traffic as I really need to get my washing machine and dishwasher going but don’t want to ruin anything 🤦‍♀️

Can I run my dishwasher and washing machine at the same time? They’re both hooked up to the same cold water feed and waster pipe under the kitchen sink, and I’ve always been under the impression you can’t use them both at the same time, but google seems to suggest it’s fine!

Can anyone confirm I won’t blow up my pipes, cause a flood or any other horrendous problem?

I run mine at the same time. No issues.

You should be able to. From an input perspective, if they both happen to try filling at the same time then it will just take a bit longer (same as if you were running a tap at the same time). From a waste perspective, so long as there's not been anything completely ridiculous in the plumbing the water should drain just fine, even if both are emptying at the same time.

Thank you guys!!

I run mine but I’ve had a couple of occasions where they’ve emptied at the exact same time and there was a small flooding issue.

The worst that is likely to happen is if you have a partially blocked sink waste pipe the sink may start to fill as they both empty.

Otherwise clear 40mm waste will happily dispose of both at the same time

@Surplus2requirements luckily I’ve just replaced a lot of the pipes so I know they’re clear at the moment! Fingers crossed then!
