I'm probably being overdramatic.

I am having a surgical management of miscarriage tomorrow and went for my pre op today.

Unfortunately I have a low grade fever and a swollen sore throat and so they won't put me to sleep with GA and have said I'll need an epidural instead. They have said I'll be at risk of sepsis if I leave this until I'm better.

I am petrified, I suffer badly from anxiety anyway and the thought of being awake / having the needle etc... Is really getting to me.

Can anyone reassure me please? Does it hurt? I'm not allowed my husband in with me either which I understand but is also making me panic.

I've had 3 epidurals, all went smoothly and did what they needed to. Try to relax and just follow their instructions when they're putting it in.

i'm so sorry for your loss. Flowers

I am so sorry for your loss and understand the panic. I had surgery management for my miscarriage and found I felt very emotional prior to going to the theatre.

As you will be awake can you ask if you could take music to help you zone away from what they are doing and not to have to listen to them?

Again so very sorry for your loss.

A very random tip for after - I found my breasts really uncomfortable after my surgery so a sports bra without wires and wear to sleep in will relieve the aching.

I had a spinal post-birth, as I had a retained placenta. It was absolutely fine, it was quick, and worked really well. I didn’t like the feeling afterwards, as you can’t even wriggle a toe, but, it’s all back in a few Hours

TheNoiseHurts · 20/02/2020 19:01

Op you poor thing.

I've had medical management, I've had epidurals and I've had sedation.

Just not all at the same time for the same thing.

The sedation will work well, if they have down it right, you won't give a fork about anything. And you will probably be grateful for the rest away from real emotions at the same time.

Epidurals, I've had two. They are absolutely brilliant. I had one when I was in labour so didnt can't about it. And I was worried about having one 'stone cold sober' and otherwise fit and well. But I did last year and it was surprisingly easy!

I'm sorry you're having to endure this.

I hope your recover quickly.

FlyingWithTheDevil · 20/02/2020 19:03

I'm so sorry for everything you're going through and I hope you manage ok mentally. Please make sure you've got enough support and access to counselling

I had an epidural with my DD and I am a huggeeeee drama queen when it comes to needles. But I can hand on heart say it felt like a scratch then one big relief that I was I numb from the waist down. I couldn't feel a thing. You could have chopped my leg off and id have never know.

I hope it goes well for you. But please don't make yourself sick wit worry about the epidural that will be just fine

Good luck xxx

I'm really sorry, I didn't read your post properly so have reported my comment and asked for it to be taken down.

I am so sorry for you OP but please rest assured you won't feel a thing Flowers

OhJustElfOff · 20/02/2020 22:00

I had an epidural after swearing I wouldn't, absolutely fine, they have to warn you of all the possibilities but they are so rare, of course this will catch the eye of the odd few who were unlucky and they may choose to comment but you won't be in labour so you will be more still and they won't be in a rush with it, I hope all goes as well as it can do Thanks

Tp93 · 20/02/2020 22:03

First one was great! Second one failed and now almost 5 months pp one of my thighs is number and my toes on one foot 😂

FREEM · 20/02/2020 22:03

don't worry. I've had 3.
husband will only be out the room for a few mins while the needle goes in.
tip is to ask for ant sickness meds.

Tp93 · 20/02/2020 22:03

**numb

Enchiladas · 20/02/2020 22:04

I've never had an epidural but just wanted to give you these Flowers and say I'm so sorry you're going through this.

GoodnessG · 21/02/2020 07:47

husband will only be out the room for a few mins while the needle goes in

He's not allowed in for the whole procedure, as in the removing of the pregnancy etc... Sad Because it's a theatre setting apparently.
