Blood on carpet

Doggyperson · 20/02/2020 07:51

Posting here for traffic. A relative fell and cut her head last weekend and there was blood everywhere. I bought some vanish to clean the carpet and thought I'd done a good job, till it dried there still lots of stains and a few very prominent red marks.

Is there a way to get blood out of a carpet please? Or do I need to replace it.

I used salt and cold water to get blood out of our carpet when our dog cut his paw, it came out surprisingly well.

A professional clean will get it out, cheaper than replacing it

woodymiller · 20/02/2020 08:05

From experience (although it wasn't blood, but food stains I tried to remove) now that you've used vanish and let it dry you will have set the stain. Might be worth getting a professional carpet cleaner in to see if they can work some magic.

Cold water - please tell us you didn’t use hot!

Lots of cold water, salt and dabbing would get blood out.

My midwife got some on white carpet when taking my bloods, I got out all out with white vinegar. Since you have already had a go, you might be better to go with a professional cleaner though.

@Hollyhead I'm afraid so, I've since found out it's a bad idea! I think I'll need a professional carpet cleaner.

Thanks everyone.

I will try the other suggestions first. It's been nearly a week now though.

I'd still say to try the salt and cold water first. I had tried everything before that was suggested to me and it still came out (it was a cream carpet too)

Is it an 100% acrylic carpet? If so I’d be tempted to give it a scrub with bleach.

Don't try if it’s wool/wool blend!

seastargirl · 20/02/2020 08:42

If you can pull up and check if it's on the underlay as out can bored back through if it's in that.

Doggyperson · 20/02/2020 08:51

@Hollyhead it's wool blend. I'm going to try the salt and water. What do I do?

Try Elbow Grease spray, yellow bottle and costs £1.
My son has nose bleeds and it gets the blood out of anything

I hope you're all happy to be accessories after the fact.

Sorry, I just finished reading a crime novel (The Paying Guests). Grin

Baby wipes, best stain-getter-off thing I’ve ever used

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 20/02/2020 09:18

Best thing I've found is 1001 carpet cleaner.
In a yellow and blue spray bottle.
