Due to fly to Dubai at the end of March with DS (3) and DS (13 months) at time of travel. Feeling rather in two minds in respect of the coronavirus outbreak - would you travel in my position??

I suppose my question is: AIBU to go? I’m not a sheltered idiot, I understand there are very few cases outside China but I’m concerned about my sons, particularly as my youngest will only be 13 months.

I think that is the best direction to head in.

Africa and the MIddle East seem unscathed at present.

Thank you - I just worry about Dubai being such a ‘hub’ for connecting travel to and from Asia. And it’s such a multicultural place, I’m sure I read that citizens of Dubai rack up the most air miles (not sure on the source, could be bollocks)

The vast majority of these virus like cook damp conditions hence why they get going in the northern hemisphere winter, they do not like warm dry conditions and so are less likely to flourish in Dubai or Africa.

Thank you - Emirates are still running flights with no plans to amend so I’ll just plan to go and be prepared to cancel last minute if necessary

Flew through Doha this week with my young kids on a connecting flight. There were a surprising number of people wearing masks. I went for the regular hand gel approach but everything seemed calm.

That’s interesting - did people seem disapproving that you weren’t? It seems an alien concept over here I suppose (and I live in London).

We’re there any body scanners or whatever I’ve read about that basically screen you for the virus?

I should be going to Dubai end of March but I am definitely taking a wait and see approach. As someone said it is a massive hub and also has a very large working community from the far east. It is also not the kind of government that I would trust to put out any proper information (or at least not until they cannot hide it anymore). Last time I checked they had 8 confirmed cases.
