AIBU for getting annoyed when people ask “are you in the q”

I’m in the chip shop and I’ve ordered. I’m on my phone and literally in the corner, away from the cashier and my eyes are on my phone.

Why do people continue to ask “are you being served love”. I have made it as obvious as possible I’m not waiting to be served.

Normally the person at the till says “what can I get you”. At that point it the person on their phone doesn’t respond I would jump in.

Are you scared of any kind of human communication ?

florriefloflorence · 20/02/2020 11:16

This has got to be a joke! Unless you’re completely devoid of social skills and politeness

bellinisurge · 20/02/2020 12:09

Op, please stop digging the hole. Something happened that irked you. It sounds like a big load of nothing to anyone who isn't you.

xsquared · 20/02/2020 12:30

Yes you are. Big fuss over nothing.

UnaCorda · 20/02/2020 13:02

I get annoyed by people not knowing the difference between "q", "queue", "cue" and "que", if that counts?

annamie · 20/02/2020 13:31

Not surprised it was a man, OP.

Remember MNers don’t even like answering the door to people so all the telling off here is a bit rich.

ShinyGiratina · 20/02/2020 14:00

The other day, I got my 6yo to ask the people loitering at the end of the end of the queueing line in a souvenir shop the other day. Just as well as they were loitering not queueing.

We then had to tell him to stand his ground as someone didn't realise that the waist high human being was queueing to pay by himself.

Nothing wrong with asking politely from the start to avoid unnecessary waiting in non-queues or pushing in.

Not surprised it was a man, OP.
WTF has this got to do with anything??

OldEvilOwl · 20/02/2020 14:14

YABU - people are just being polite. I wouldn't wait outside though like a couple of people have suggested, why the hell would you do that?

kmc1111 · 20/02/2020 14:19

This annoys me too OP. I don’t understand why people think it’s good queue etiquette to ask people who clearly aren’t queuing if they’re queuing. A lack of common sense isn’t polite, it’s just annoying.

eenymeenyminyme · 20/02/2020 14:22

Not surprised it was a man, OP.

Yeah, flipping men eh? Being all polite and making sure they're not pushing in front of you... Hmm

Avocadohips · 20/02/2020 15:26

Disturb you?!!

You were killing time on your phone waiting for your fish and chips order to be prepared!

Not surprised it was a man, OP.

What's that got to do with the price of fish?

FelicityFebruary · 20/02/2020 15:49

Kmc I would interpret it not as a lack of common but instead giving someone the courtesy of not assuming. Because the situation was ambiguous as op had head stuck in phone and could have missed her chance to order.

notacooldad · 20/02/2020 15:51

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

mnthrowaway202020 · 20/02/2020 15:54

Let’s be honest though, you would be more annoyed if you were in the queue first and the person behind piped up when the cashier said “who’s next?”. They’re just being considerate.

Incontinencesucks · 22/02/2020 06:04

I would ask.ni was at a shop 2 days ago, same situation with dad on phone nowhere close to till but around desk. He was aggressive to a woman who didn't ask and just went to the till. I suspect looking for an argument.
