Sorry, I can't find online and wondered if anyone here knows if there is anywhere to wait in the car at Gatwick train station? I can put the train station in sat nav but no idea if I can wait there? My anxiety is going through the roof, the more I search the more I panic! I'm a very nervous driver as it is.... anyone know please? Thank you!

Will look. When is it for and how long do you need to park for.

LIZS · 19/02/2020 18:07

No don't think so, sorry, and the various filter lanes around the terminals are pretty confusing, Could you meet at Horley, just up the line where there is waitrose and p and d carpark close by.

Kazziek · 19/02/2020 18:10

There isn't a car park at Gatwick airport station. How about waiting at the next station along the line? Whatever you do, don't wait in the petrol station or McD, the charges are awful!

HappyHammy · 19/02/2020 18:15

There is short stay parking, look at their website. Are you using it to pick someone up from a flight, the station is really close to the airport.

TigsytheTiger · 19/02/2020 18:16

You can go into a short stay car park and wait but obviously you would need to pay parking charges.

There are no free car parks or waiting areas. Horley town is about 5 minutes from Gatwick you could park there (lots of car parking), grab a coffee and get the person you are collecting (assume this is what you're doing) to call you when they are ready, you will be there in 5 to 10 minutes. Hope this helps

You can pull up outside Atlantic House which is just outside the terminal for free

Ilovemydoggo · 19/02/2020 18:21

Thanks v much everyone!

If you're picking someone up, surely they should walk to wherever cars pick up people coming off flights?

hibiscuslightening · 19/02/2020 18:23

There is a short stay car park if you need to go into the airport to meet someone but it is pricey. What some other people do is wait in the carpark at the drive through McDonald’s by the South Terminal and tell their passengers to meet them outside the hotel on Westway. It’s the Hilton I think.

I’m not sure this is a formal arrangement but everyone does it

hibiscuslightening · 19/02/2020 18:25

@pettyContractor - unfortunately Gatwick doesn’t have a free pick up. You are supposed to use the short stay carpark but prices start at more than £10...

LIZS · 19/02/2020 18:27

Or go to the large Tesco at Hookwood and wait for a call there. IIrc it is about £7 minimum in short stay and to get to Mc Ds you have to go round the terminal as it is on the exit road and time there is pretty limited.

HenHarrier · 19/02/2020 18:30

Or park in the South Terminal long stay car park - you get 2 hrs free parking, wait there until your train passenger texts that they are ready to be collected and meet them at the South Terminal pick up area, or park up and use the free shuttle bus and meet them on foot.

Three Bridges (next station towards Brighton) has a waiting area in front of the station but it gets rammed in the morning and evening peak.

amatsip · 19/02/2020 18:33

I wait/drop off at atlantic house, very close and less stressful.

amatsip · 19/02/2020 18:33

Three bridges having roadworks at mo so be careful waiting there.

DropZoneOne · 19/02/2020 18:41

YY to Atlantic House.

Come out of the station at Gatwick South Terminal and walk straight ahead
ï‚· Continue walking straight ahead; M&S is in front of you (to your left.) Turn right (passing
Arrivals) and head to the end of the corridor passing Costa Coffee (on your right)
ï‚· You will see a door headed "Metrobus/Local Buses" - walk down the stairs
ï‚· Once outside, walk straight ahead (do not go down the underpass)
ï‚· This road is a road-block for cars and you pass the smoking area (on your right)
ï‚· Keep walking along this road and you will pass a large building on the left-hand side
(Ashdown House)
ï‚· Keep walking until you get to a road where you need to cross over (mini-roundabout)
ï‚· Atlantic House is on your left.

Ilovemydoggo · 19/02/2020 19:12

Thanks so much, waiting at Atlantic House. Thanks again.
