Blandmum · 04/09/2007 19:24

FFS you don't even know the reason, and you are moaning. He could be coping with the sort of shit I deal with every day.

Do what I do every day, and you'd have something to bloody moan about

wildwoman · 04/09/2007 19:25

Don't rise to it MB

littlemissturquoise · 04/09/2007 19:25

Yes, you are being unreasonable. I assure you the teacher feels really bad that they are not in and will be worrying that the supply teacher is doing a good enough job, will be thinking of how much MORE work they will have to do to catch up from taking one day off, and they will be looking at the clock and thinking "at this point, the kids should be doing..............." etc. When you are a teacher you have to be completely in control/professional/the leader/in charge at all times, rather than if you work behind a computer and you can just surf the net all day and not talk to anyone because you feel so crap. Teachers can't even go to the toilet unless it is break time/lunch time! Teachers DO NOT take days off unless they really, really have to. Maybe this teacher has just been bereaved, or they have a stomach bug, or they found out their partner is having an affair, or whatever! You are being very unreasonable, zz!!!!!

zztown · 04/09/2007 19:28

I didn't realise that these AUBU threads create such a stir. I am sorry if I personally offended anyone.

pointydog · 04/09/2007 19:28

Surely today's doctors aren't as illiterate as zztown.

I blame the teachers.

Blandmum · 04/09/2007 19:28

I just hope you stay fit and well and away from accidents. And you family likewise.

Or people might complain about you

zztown · 04/09/2007 20:03

MB I do understand your viewpoint and I am not into upsetting folk on mn for the fun of it.

I do understand about the big issues here on mn and some like me "say sorry to hear that" and "how sad for that" and do it genuinely from experience or are touched by it.

However AIBU threads are a load of rubbish IMHO and should be taken with a light heart.

Blandmum · 04/09/2007 20:11

I just get pissed off when people have utterly unrealistic expectations of a teacher.

You don;t know why this guy wasn't there.

He could have been in an accident.

He could have become ill overnight.

He could have had an in visable condition that got worse overnight.

Someone in his family could have been ill, or died.

He would even have been sent on a very ill times training course.

He could of course, be swinging the lead.

But it irritates when a parents immediate response is to whinge, when they don't know the facts.

Post tomorrow that you saw him painting the town red tonight with no problems, and I'll sympathise. If not you are being unreasonable and rather irriating.

Everyone has a the right to be an arse on MN. Trying to justify it is rather more problematical

zztown · 04/09/2007 20:20

Well I beg to differ, what you say maybe true.
I am sorry that you think I am trying to justify myself to you, because I am not. If you find me irriating then leave me alone, as I didn't seek you out.

"I am not a real doctor".

No shit, I am suprised!

Of course I would much rather my kid's teacher came into school d&v or whatever and infected them as well. Then I could have a week off work while she's sick and probably another week off work as I'm bound to catch it the following week. Joy.

TellusMater · 04/09/2007 21:04

Actually, I am a teacher, and if my child's teacher was absent the second day of term I would, with my parent hat on, think "oh for crying out loud, it the second day of term FGS!"

And then I would realise I was being an arse and it would pass.

So, IMO YABU-ish, and certainly unreasonable to have gone on about it so much.

And I hope the poor man is just under the weather, or you are going to feel like a right cow...

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 04/09/2007 21:07

The headmaster of our school was off for 4months last year with stress. And was often seen out in town on a Friday night quite drunk. I was a bit but then being reasonable I suppose it was helping him destress.

TellusMater · 04/09/2007 21:08

Well, "stress" may well cover some alcohol-related issues IME...

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 04/09/2007 21:10

I think if I was a teacher I'd be permenently off with stress

popsycal · 04/09/2007 21:21

oh good grief

LittleBella · 04/09/2007 21:28

But zz, you still haven't explained why you automatically assumed that this guy is a workshy malingerer.

If my DD's teacher is off tomorrow, I'll assume she's ill. With my parent hat on, I honestly won't give a shit. In fact, I probably won't even notice. Maybe that makes me a bad, uninvolved parent, but I really don't think it's going to wreck my DD's educational future. I simply can't understand why on earth this is such a big deal to you, mainly because you haven't offered one single rational explanation of why it is. It would be exasperating, if I were inclined to be exasperated.

Elasticwoman · 04/09/2007 21:39

Just want to send hugs and pat on back to MB. Heroic.
