About MLM job ads!

I might BU but I run a wee Facebook page to try and help people get work. It started as a wee group but has grown to over 60k members. I share and post job ads, volunteering and training opportunities in the local area. Obviously I dont get paid anything from anyone, I only do it to help a bit due to the high rates of unemployment in my area.
One of the rules is no MLM posts, mainly because of the fees but also because I asked the members and they voted to keep them off.
Ended up in an argument by pm this morning over another MLM job that I refused to post. It didn't say it was MLM but I've seen a million now so it's pretty obvious. Even when I called them out with a link to their own website they still tried to deny it was MLM. This one is clever and operates under 2 umbrella companies but it was still easy to find.
I have no probs if someone wants to look for that kind of job, it's easy enough on Google but I can't believe the dishonesty of some of these people! Apparently I'm denying someone this "amazing opportunity" to part with their hard earned cash, there is even a monthly fee and an outlay for this one.
Am I? Can you really make a full time wage on MLM?

YANBU. These companies prey on people who don't know any better. Only the people at the top of the pyramid chain will make any decent money.

WinterCat · 19/02/2020 12:00

YANBU. I really don’t think you can argue with those who believe otherwise as they are deluded or else they are the unrealistic 1 in a billion. Lots of people leave groups where they feel they are bombarded with MLM so you’re doing a good thing by keeping them out. Just a simple one line response and then blocking if anyone persists is all I’d bother with.

hoodathunkit · 19/02/2020 12:03

YANBU

I visited a few remote villages recently and found lots of hand written notes on community notice boards asking for volunteers to test cosmetics and essential oils

A bit of googling showed that the phone number was for an MLM bot who also worked as a life coach and hypnotherapist / NLP therapist

depressing

sounds like you're doing a great job OP Flowers

Hannah4banana · 19/02/2020 12:04

Thanks so much, I don't want it over run as it makes it difficult to see the actual job posts. I know it annoys me on other pages. I don't engage but I'm just off a nightshift this morning and had a really cheeky pm so I felt the rage Grin

Your doing the right thing - don’t let them con your members!

minou123 · 19/02/2020 12:58

YANBU, stick to your guns.
I think you are doing a fantastic job. Especially being the 'gatekeeper' to keep out MLM, who exploit women.

Keep that rage and tell them where to go.

ActualHornist · 19/02/2020 13:13

YANBU at all. My cousin has recently got into Arbonne and it’s like she’s been taken over. Crazy.

DonnaDarko · 19/02/2020 13:15

YANBU , definitely not.

I think less than 1% of members of MLMs actually make decent money from them!

GladAllOver · 19/02/2020 13:16

Well done for this very worthwhile public service. You are helping people get jobs, and MLM are not jobs.

PineappleDanish · 19/02/2020 13:18

Scamtastic. You are doing the right thing refusing to advertise these pyramid scams.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 19/02/2020 13:23

If I were you I'd do a post called "Why I don't allow MLMs" and link to organisations like Timeless Vie. I bet you'll get loads of supportive comments which should put the Huns in their place.

Hannah4banana · 19/02/2020 13:30

Thank you so much for the lovely comments, I was a serial job hunter for me and my friends until I got my dream job (not MLM lol) and I thought I could put it to good use. The block person messenger facility has been very well used Grin

Great idea honeysucklejasmine! I think I will do just that

I agree it's so annoying!!

I'm on a page similar to yours and everyone that puts a post up asking for opportunities (regardless of relevance) there's a deluge of "I have a space on my team", "would you like to work from home around children" etc

All that predatory bollocks around people at their most vulnerable. Stick to your guns and continue with the lovely work you're doing! :)

Hannah4banana · 19/02/2020 14:16

You are so right, their money is tight! You shouldn't have to pay to apply for a job Angry I feel so sad that someone will part with money then realise its been an absolute waste and alienated their friends and family in the process. The only winners are the people at the top of the MLM companies laughing all the way to the bank!

There are some really great articles online about MLMs which may be worth posting o the group, unfortunately they normally target women with small children who may be struggling a bit and showing false things on Social Media about how they too can have a great life.

This is a great blog that may be worth posting to your group

YANBU

TheGoogleMum · 19/02/2020 17:14

Yanbu. I don't think mlm are as evil as some on here but I hate the deceptiveness. I also really hate when they advertise job opportunities but are really secretive about the job asking you to pm. If it's younique for example just tell us ffs...

Hannah4banana · 19/02/2020 17:47

Totally agree TheGoogleMum! If someone wants to look for that kind of job it's easy enough to Google. Hiding behind pms and Facebook pages and trying to convert everyone is what's annoying

OP posts:
PooWillyBumBum · 19/02/2020 17:50

YANBU and are doing vulnerable members a service by not endorsing schemes that are likely to cost them - and not make them - money. Fucking vultures.
