Hi all
As a constant trawler on mumsnet i wanted to post some hope and positivity.
Endoscopy - i went for sedation i was very nervous and yet the only things i remember is coughing when im guessing they inserted the tube in and i remember coughing again which im guessing as they pulled out. I just remember coughing no retching up feeling. They bought me into the room sprayed my mouth before hand with the banana spray which burnt and stung yet numbed my throat, put a canula in my hand added sedation while i lay down on my side put this mouth guard in my mouth and apart from that and coughing i dont remember much or felt much. It was apparently only 7mins long and after 30 mins or so i left not even 1hr wait. While waiting i was talking to two nurses who were monitoring my blood pressure. I felt a tad woozy when leaving and was told no driving for 24 hrs.
What took time was the waiting around nothing more.
Manometry test - i had this before endoscopy. It was unpleasent i went wrong because your meant to sip water continously for them to thread the tube into your throat. I stopped for a nano second and began retching and coughing back the tube. Second attempt it went through. The tests were sip some water swallow dont swallow and take some bread. I would have to repeat if i swallowed when i should not have. (Saliva was collating in mouth couldnt help it) the bit that hurt me most was my nose it was super painful because of the tube not so much the throat and i struggled to lie down flat because of the pain in my nose. They had to raise the bed head get me on then gently raise it down. I had the numbing banana spray through my nose and that again stung and made me cough alot. Its to stop you sneezing.
24hr PH test simpler then manometry they put in an even thinner tube which went down easy (swallow water dont stop) but my nose was feeling very sore and painful. I didnt think i would last 24hrs but as you go about your day you get used to it. Get someone to drive you home because i was having to turn my head when driving which in turn pulled the tube and nose. Eating was uncomfertable it was like your noses insides were yanked. I also kept swallowing pools of saliva every 2 seconds throughout the day. Swallowing wasnt great but just do it. My body was reacting to the foreign object i didnt know how i would sleep and swallow saliva but as soon as i lay down straight it stopped and i slept soundly. During sleep something must have relaxed my nose as i woke up with no pain anymore. I hadnt spoken the whole day before as talking was uncomfertable but now better.
The 24 hr test was completed. Please dont be afraid even if i had to do the manometry test again i would especially now i know all i need to do is swallow the water non stop.
The thought is scarier you will get through it. The endoscopy was a breeze the manometry a struggle because i wasnt listening the 24hr test just a pain in my nose which i dont think is the case for everyone. Goodluck future people.
