going out soon after a cold/flu

I spent Thursday-Sunday felled by a bad cold or flu. There is no reason to think it was coronavirus as I haven't been to Asia recently. It was probably just flu (came with aches and pains, and fever on Thursday night) though I do get the flu shot. Never tested for COVID (how???) but did stay in three straight days.

I feel better now though coughing, but I'm asthmatic and often do for quite a while after a cold. If it was a cold I should be no longer infectious.

Question is, should I feel free to go out now? Of course I don't want to infect anyone, but I also don't want to spook anyone on bus, train, etc by coughing! Work from home but rest of life is going to fall apart fast (and kids need some fresh air!) -- for purely social meetings as of today I am offering friends the choice.

YABU= stay in

It does not sound like you had flu as that lasts more than a few days.

If you feel well go out there are coughs and colds about all the time.

Flu kills more people than coronavirus.

I have had flu three times in my life. You would know if you have the flu. Each time it has completely floored me and taken weeks to feel better, the last time I got pneumonia and it took 3 months to feel fully better. You probably had a bad cold or virus.

Agree with others . Got a flu type virus at New Years and I’m still feeling the aftermath of a cough and runny/ blocked nose .
There is a nasty cold bug going around though so sounds like that .
I think you’d be fine to go out ,after all lots of people have to go back to work as soon as they’re able

Don't assume you're not infectious after 3-4 days with a cold. It depends on how quickly your body fights the virus. Of course you can't stay in for a long time with a cold but don't assume you're not infectious. I catch every cold going.

You have a cold, stop being dramatic

gamerwidow · 17/02/2020 19:27

It would be unreasonable to quarantine yourself because of a bad cold. It can take up to 3 weeks to stop coughing after a cold of chest infection . I've been coughing on and off for nearly 8 weeks now due to a chest infection followed by two colds. It's just that time of year.

Flu kills more people than coronavirus

No. Flu has killed more people than coronavirus. It's not the same thing. I suggest if you get a choice, choose flu.

Anyway, op, it was probably just a cold.

Flu kills more people than coronavirus.

Hmm it really doesn’t.
The case fatality rate in a typical flu year is 0.1%.
The current estimated case fatality rate of covid-19 is 2% (20 times higher).
