To not work tomorrow....

I’m self employed, I do work for a large company, and they are such poor payers. They are late paying every time, I have to chase. They do pay, but I have to ask. So I said if you don’t pay on time I’m not working. I wasn’t paid on fri, so I didn’t work to today, said I would tomorrow if paid in full today. They paid one of the 2 invoices. So AIBU to not work for them tomorrow? I do like the work. And it’s a good income, I provide a very reliable service. am I going stitch myself if I don’t work?

I wouldn't work until the pay. If you provide a good and reliable service, they likely won't want to lose you.

It's unacceptable that they don't pay on time- it's not as if you do it for the good of your health, it's your living.

There's no excuse for them not paying on time, it's just poor management.

Have you got contractual payment terms ?

NemophilistRebel · 17/02/2020 19:13

We run a construction company and as soon as someone is late paying we down tools until they pay or they just take the piss all the time

It’s damaging to a self employed persons cash flow or companies cash flow and is disgraceful

kittykatkitty · 17/02/2020 19:21

I would be asking for payment in advance if this is an option

Pat123dev · 17/02/2020 19:30

No contract, just orders and then I send invoice.

I think the thing keeps it going is they do pay....eventually.

But it’s shit for my cash flow. Comparative to what they have built up in debt, before. it’s not very much they owe. It’s more principle now.

Depends if you can afford to lose their business? I'd hold firm, if you don't this time any future threats won't be taken seriously but I am stubborn by nature!

I wouldn’t work for them again personally. Clients that don’t pay aren’t worth having.

I run a Finance Department. Everyone is paid on time no questions. If we haven’t paid someone on time it’s because we don’t have the invoice.

They don’t prioritise it or they have cash flow issues, both of which I’d find concerning.

I’d either ask for payment in advance or stop working for them.
