To ask what time your 10mo goes to bed and gets up?

Just that really.

My 10.5mo goes to bed around 18:15, and usually wakes between 5-6am. TOO early.

But in the past he'd go bed a bit later and get up between 4-5am! So I'm VERY nervous to try a later bedtime.

But even so, it feels like trying to solve a riddle because he needs a nap after X amount of hours, and if the gap between last nap and bedtime is too long, it affects his (already poor) sleep badly. So I need to try to keep the nap gaps optimum, which leaves no choice as he then, based on his naps, must go to bed around 18:15.

But 18:15 is too early, because he wakes up frequently enough that it's not worth me going downstairs and leaving him to sleep anymore, I just stay in the room and eventually sleep too. Never see my DH in the evenings. It kind of sucks.

I don't know what I'm expecting from this but hearing other people's 10mo's bedtime (and waking time) would be interesting and perhaps give me something to aim for.

My 11m old is normally asleep between 7-7.15 and wakes between 6.45 and 7.30. If she stirs before 6.45 she’ll generally go back for a snooze. We’re on 2 naps (normally am is 1h30-2h but pm is starting to be a bit trickier and random).

Enchiladas · 16/02/2020 19:47

(Oh and all my friends have the 'sleep through 7 til 7 since birth' variety which is completely alien and unhelpful to my already fragile, sleep deprived mind)

CremeBrule thanks for the reply. Mine recently dropped his 3rd nap, he tends to sleep around 9 or 10am and then 1 or 2pm but can vary in how long for

This is amazing! That's almost 11-12hours! Shitloads of people reading this would be buzzing for this!

Curiosity101 · 16/02/2020 19:53

How much does he nap? My baby is only 5 1/2 months but I'm very lenient with naps. I basically ignored the guidelines and he still naps too many times a day according to those but he's happy to nap whenever he needs and it gets him through to bed time. On average he does 2 hours awake and 1 hour asleep through out the day, but it varies quite a bit.

Sometimes if he wakes from his afternoon nap too early to allow for bedtime he might have a cheeky 20-30 mins close to bedtime to make sure he isn't over tired.

However... this is my first baby and I'm under the impression he's a good sleeper. So I may have just been lucky.

My 11Mo DS has his bed time milk at 7.30pm..

He "usually" sleeps 7.30 till 11, then till 2ish, then till 6... If I am really lucky he snuggles back in till half past...

My first never slepy through until age 2 and half and it seems this one is going the same way...

Naps vary but he only has 2 a day.. Usually after school run till 11.30 then he has another 1.5 to 2 hours mid afternoon and that's it x

yukka · 16/02/2020 19:57

Well I'm on a 7 month old and currently trying to sort her sleeping, quality of sleep isnt great. What has caused an improvement though is the 234 routine, 1st nap 2 hours after wake up, 2nd nap 3 hours after that, bedtime 4 hours after that one.

As she's younger than yours we're doing a 3rd cat nap at 4:30 till 5, then bed time is 6:30 down for 7.

She actively sleeps till 6:30 but shuffles, needs the dummy etc etc so different issue and she's younger, but I found this routine helpful?

headlicehelp · 16/02/2020 19:59

At that age DS used to get up about 7am. He would then nap from 9am-10am & from 1pm-3pm then go to bed at 7pm.
He'd occasionally get up over night if teething, ill or cold. Didn't get night feeds anymore.

Enchiladas · 16/02/2020 20:00

dietcoker The thing is he doesn't actually sleep all that time, he's up and down like a yoyo pretty much all night/morning. And I've never sleep trained him so I'm up with him rocking and feeding him back to sleep Sad

I've not had a good night's, well rested sleep since early pregnancy lol.

Thank you all for replies will be popping back in

He would only properly nap in his cot in the dark though. It completely messed up his overnight sleep if his day time naps didn't go well.

Hopeislost · 16/02/2020 20:04

My 10mo goes to bed at 7.30-8pm, wakes up for a feed at 1/1.30am then sleeps until 7.30-8.30..

If you want to change their bedtime, I'd suggest doing it spread over a week (e.g making it 10 minutes later each day).

babysnowman · 16/02/2020 20:09

I'm reading this and wondering what the hell I'm doing wrong!!

My 10mo goes down at 7-7.30pm, usually without much fuss. Sometimes it takes two hours to get her down though. Then she wakes at least 5/6 times a night and is properly awake by 6.30am.

orangejuicer · 16/02/2020 20:13

My 14mo goes to bed about 7.30 and wakes about 5. At 10mo it was more like 6am waking.

Teething and molars. Joy.

Bearlyawake · 16/02/2020 21:19

11 month old, bed approx 7.15pm and sleeps until about 7am but will stir once or twice. We recently ditched his dummy cold turkey and put him on a nap schedule during the day. It was crap for a few days but is now sleeping much better.

Hugtheduggee · 16/02/2020 21:25

10mo. Goes to bed between 7.30-8, wakes for the day between 7-8. Occasionally a bit later, occasionally a bit earlier.

Usually a few wake ups and night feeds though.

Hilda40 · 16/02/2020 21:27

Mine goes up about 9.p.m. bit I let him read for an hour.

onetwothreeadventure · 16/02/2020 21:35

Mine goes down between 7 and 8pm and has just recently started sleeping through to 7 or 8am - before this it was 6am, didn't matter what time they went down. They nap from 11 to 12 and 3:30 to 4:30 although the second nap is often an hour later which pushes bedtime closer to 8 on those days.

Ineedcoffee2345 · 16/02/2020 22:03

Dd1 we let her have a cat nap around 6.30pm 20 mins max. Then we started bath bottle then bed for 7.45pm she slept until 7am. Fast forward to now age 2 she goes down at 7.30 and is up and down like a yoyo coming into our room wanting in our bed.
Dd2 is 4 months. Bottle at 10pm and sleeps until 8.30am Shock nothing we have done. She's just a very very good sleeper.

Probablygreen · 16/02/2020 22:45

I would push his naps back so he’s doing 10:30 and 2:30/3, he will then not need to go to bed until 7/7:30 and should still sleep for 11-12 hours making the wake up time 6:30/7. It will be hell for a few days as you’ll have to make an effort to keep him awake until 10:30 but this worked wonders for both of mine. Good luck!

Probablygreen · 16/02/2020 22:46

@Hilda40

She has a 10 month old. I think your DS must be 10 years old or a genius? 🤣

PippinStar · 16/02/2020 22:49

At 10mo he was going to bed at anywhere from 6.15-7pm and waking anywhere between 7am and 8am BUT he would wake twice a night for feeds. Now at 12mo, he's still on the same schedule but he's just dropped both feeds over the last month.

BiblioX · 16/02/2020 22:55

My 10 month old goes to bed with 2 year old at 7pm, leave the room immediately and there’s not a peep. Sometimes has a yell at 3am but only gets water. Wakes up between 5am and 6.30am. Two year old wakes 7am.
Two naps. At least three hours after wake up and at least 3 hours apart. Straight in to cot and leave room immediately.
It was a lot, lot worse until I took away milk in night.

theworstwife · 16/02/2020 23:04

10 month old DD goes to bed between 6.30 and 7pm and wakes between 6.30 and 7.30am. Naps 9.30am for about 30 mins and 12 for 2 hours. She mostly sleeps through now. My DS however parented exactly the same woke at 4.50am ready for the day until he was 2

Sparkles1992 · 16/02/2020 23:09

My 9MO sleep is ridiculous. He barely naps if a day and sometimes won't sleep until gone 9pm he then wakes every two hrs still for a drink and finally wakes properly for the day at 9am. I'd much prefer to get him down earlier and up earlier but some nights he absolutely refuses. I take him up at 7 and sometimes hel go off but he's awake an he later. I'm just hoping as he gets older his sleep will get better.

Good luck it's super tiring!
