AIBU to think flood defences should be secured across the UK before a £20 Billion pound bridge to NI should even be thought about.

YANBU - flood defences should get priority
YABU - bridge should be prioritised

Harpingon
What do your local EA team say ?
What studies to they refer to.
I would never purport to know more than those who have published the studies - but its sadly common that planners do not like to refer to such studies.
Where do you live?

Elder that's true. Not too far from where I live there is a town that has meadows for flooding, that surround a river. The meadows flood, the town is protected. Very useful and visually pleasing management.

Some decent tail routes, that’s what NI needs, ridiculous that you have to drive to get round most of Ireland ... pretty drives, but still...

Listening Quietly I'm not going to tell a complete stranger on the internet, who is apparently an expert in flood defences?? but not working tonight? where I live.
We have permanent and temporary barriers in our town and we have had extensive management of our river. We have had sandbags and tubes full of water, door defences and cellar tanking, tree planting and ditch digging. It doesn't work. We still flood, as always. Apparently when the river was dredged it helped but that might be wishful thinking. A huge amount of money has been poured into keeping us from flooding with absolutely no affect.

By the time this mythical bridge is finished it’s unlikely that NI will even be part of the U.K. there’s a lot else that money could be spent on... flood defences or otherwise.

@Roomba I'm obviously very naive but my god that what news we see is so easily and deliberately manipulated is terrifying. I suppose I knew it happened but such attention to that level of detail has surprised me.

MarchDaffs · 17/02/2020 08:55

The bridge isn't going to happen. Have you not heard about all the munitions round there? Not even Boris Johnson is that stupid.

Dredging is useless in places like York as it is only 18 feet above sea level despite being MILES from the sea
