How can the police claim to be making this a nationwide priority when only as far away as Cumbria I've never heard her name!!

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/02/2020 10:56

She's been all over the news. The poor family.

MrsAJ27 · 16/02/2020 10:56

Do you watch the news?

Anniegetyourgun · 16/02/2020 11:00

There's a massive logical flaw in your post. Like, what are you posting? Information about...

Cornettoninja · 16/02/2020 11:02

According to a quick google 180,000 people per year are reported missing.

I’m really very sorry if you are personally affected by this case but in the cold hard facts are missing people can be extremely difficult to locate. Put in perspective that someone could literally be anywhere then it’s unsurprising that missing people don’t draw publicity unless there are concrete clues/evidence pointing to their location. The media won’t give up column inches easily.

You being unaware of her is not an indication of how hard the police are working. Do you routinely check your local news, local police website, missing persons sites in the UK? I bet the information is there but doesn’t register on your radar.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 16/02/2020 11:02

She’s been all over the news Confused

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/02/2020 11:07

Yeah it’s been on the news loads!

Paddingtonthebear · 16/02/2020 11:07

Her poor parents, they lost their son recently too

labazsisgoingmad · 16/02/2020 11:11

the thing with a missing person they could turn up anywhere so getting nationwide coverage can help

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 16/02/2020 11:12

I’ve never heard of her either OP but I’m in NI.

TeaAndWine · 16/02/2020 11:16

I work closely with Missing persons team at TVP and I can assure you they are working their arses off to find her and have been for months now. I don't really see the point in your post.

CakeandCustard28 · 16/02/2020 11:19

What’s the point of your post? She’s been in the news a lot... maybe start watching/reading the news more? 🤷🏻‍♀️ This post is really insensitive to the person and her family, imagine if they were on MN.

purpleme12 · 16/02/2020 11:19

This is so sad this case.

Nodnol · 16/02/2020 11:22

I'm in Australia and have heard about Leah. I can't believe it's been a year, her poor family.

Forrandomposts · 16/02/2020 11:32

I'm in London and never heard about it. But we all have different spheres of influence. Doesn't meant he police aren't trying their best.

InescapableDeath · 16/02/2020 11:32

Their son took his own life because he was so upset by losing Leah and the lack of progress (ok I am making some assumptions there but that's essentially what the family have said). Awful situation.

The case was big news however there has been no evidence/clues since it first happened. She simply disappeared.

I follow this case on Websleuths and there is no news, only speculation. I fear whoever took Leah covered their tracks very well.

SirVixofVixHall · 16/02/2020 11:33

I hadn’t heard of her either. Her poor family.

AJPTaylor · 16/02/2020 11:40

My dd lives on that estate.
Sadly she could be anywhere but not likely alive. MK is full of footpaths and redways covered by high hedging/planting and no passing cars.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 16/02/2020 11:40

Live near the area so we get the reports. Heartbreaking for the family to lose their son as well. I just hope they get the answers soon. Even if it's the one they dread but sort of expect some closure is better then not knowing.

DarkDarkNight · 16/02/2020 11:41

I have never heard of her either and do follow the news. How awful for her family, it must be awful to just not know what has happened.

gingersausage · 16/02/2020 11:48

Why are people snarkily pointing out “it’s been all over the news”? The OP’s point was that she hadn’t heard about it, so it obviously hadn’t been on anything she had seen; telling her you’ve seen it doesn’t make the fact that she hasn’t any less true 🙄.

Crockof · 16/02/2020 11:48

It's not been covered as much as other cases, she went missing at a similar time as Libby the university student and that had more coverage, Claudia Lawrence had more coverage. From reading reports I think the police felt that it was her choice to dissappear/self harm so they were not looking for another person. It is very sad.

Cornettoninja · 16/02/2020 12:03

@gingersausage

How can the police claim..’ makes the implication of the whole sentence a comment that there has been no coverage.

It’s no snarky to correct that.

RedskyAtnight · 16/02/2020 12:15

Granted I live fairly locally, but I feel like I've had a steady stream of news (or lack thereof) about her all year. I think there is so much news these days it's easy to miss things like this. But good that the renewed publicity is getting to people that hadn't heard before.

drina27 · 16/02/2020 12:18

I have not heard if this case either. I rarely watch television news but I do read the BBC news online every day and the refreshes. I read The Guardian too.
I agree it is strange, OP.

QuillBill · 16/02/2020 12:22

I thought this yesterday. I haven't heard anything about it.
