How can the police claim to be making this a nationwide priority when only as far away as Cumbria I've never heard her name!!

People go missing everyday. It’s awful but it would be very hard for someone to take in and remember all the details about all the people that go missing, you tend to remember the ones that have a connection so from where you live or from where you have lived/someone you know lives, or if there was something strange about the case from the beginning.
Can you remember all the details and names of people that were stabbed in the uk last year? They were all in the news but you read it and move on and often don’t retain the info. Doesn’t mean they have had more or less coverage than others.

coconuttelegraph · 16/02/2020 12:32

I'm not sure what your point is. No one can know everything.

I've known about this since she first went missing but of course not everyone else will have

UserV · 16/02/2020 12:32

Well I must admit that I only heard about her 4 or 5 days ago.

But as a pp said, 10s of 1000s of people a year go missing, and you can't expect every single one to be vastly reported on.

inicecoldblood · 16/02/2020 12:33

I've heard about her and her poor brother and I live in West Yorkshire.

SockQueen · 16/02/2020 12:36

I live in MK so am very aware of it but haven't seen a lot of national coverage. The police are definitely still working on it though.

It's weird in that we know quite a bit of detail about what happened just before, they've traced a large part of her route using domestic CCTV etc, and then suddenly - nothing. Nobody heard/saw anything, in a busy residential area.

MelAndShoe · 16/02/2020 12:42

Not heard about this before. Awful

DustyMaiden · 16/02/2020 12:50

I didn’t know about her, thanks to you I do now.

gingersausage · 16/02/2020 12:57

Unfortunately it’s very hit or miss what gets picked up by, and heavily reported on, by the national newspapers. “Missing White Girl syndrome” is a real thing, although thankfully not a factor in this case. As already mentioned, Leah went missing 2 weeks after Libby Squire’s abduction and subsequent murder, so a lot of focus was already being given to that case. There was also a lot of other factors tied up in the reporting of the background to Leah’s disappearance which sadly made people make quick assumptions about what happened one way or the other.

MillicentMartha · 16/02/2020 13:02

She was coming up on my FB feed a lot in the first few months after her disappearance, not so much in the news. I did know her brother had committed suicide, poor young man. After a year there’s not much hope, sadly. That poor family.

MummySharn · 16/02/2020 13:03

I haven’t heard of this

Dreamscomingtrue · 16/02/2020 13:20

I haven’t heard of her either, not in the press or TV coverage.

FruitorCheese · 16/02/2020 13:24

I don't live in England but read about this case and the tragic death of her brother at the time.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 16/02/2020 13:41

OP she's been on BBC news for a while. That's where I read about her (I'm in South Wales).

Double3xposure · 16/02/2020 13:47

What a courageous and well thought out statement from her mother. My heart goes out to the whole family and to others who have a loved one missing.

It’s great that you want to help OP. Here’s a link to a webpage where you can look at photos of missing people - you can search by area.

FizzyIce · 16/02/2020 13:52

I’ve heard of poor Leah .
Been in the news since she vanished last year .
If you don’t really watch / read the news or papers then you won’t have heard of her

YesItsMeIDontCare · 16/02/2020 14:13

I'm related to one of those people who go missing and don't get reported on. Well, a 2 minute section on local news 3 months later but that's about it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Crinkle77 · 16/02/2020 14:17

I haven't heard of her either.

Arrowfanatic · 16/02/2020 14:20

That's my town and we are so gutted she hasn't been found, and I just can't help but feel something terrible has happened. I dont want to use the "M" word but it's got to be likely now surely? How you have missed this though I'll never know, it's been all over the news for a year now.

ElderAve · 16/02/2020 14:22

From something I read earlier in the week, have been frustrated by this case because they have a strong suspicion that family or friends aren't telling them all they know about the girl's life and movements and are with holding information which would assist in finding her. in that situation you can understand they might prioritise hard pressed resources elsewhere.

Cyberve · 16/02/2020 14:23

It's likely she was murdered sadly. Just wish they could have some closure from this by finding her. Sad It's heartbreaking to see parents like that. No parent should have to bury their child.

ElderAve · 16/02/2020 14:24

*police have been frustrated....

Mumdiva99 · 16/02/2020 14:35

@ElderAve they may be frustrated but the police have worked hard on this.

The challenge in this case is that she has actually vanished without a trace which is incredibly unusual. There is normally evidence to suggest that the person left willing or evidence to suggest otherwise. From that morning when she vanished there is absolutely nothing. (No possessions gone, no money, no passport, no phone used, no getting in touch with friends or family etc etc No one saw anything or heard anything. Nothing to suggest she left against her will....)

For those of you who didn't know about Lean Croucher please share away. Someone somewhere must know something. All her parents want is some kind of closure.

joffreyscoffees · 16/02/2020 14:36

In Leeds and never heard of her, I don't think it's as high profile as people are making out.

FakeFraudSquad · 16/02/2020 14:38

I watch and read the news and live very close to Cumbria. I’ve genuinely not heard of this case at all until now.

Angelw · 16/02/2020 14:49

I watch the news daily, never heard of her. I think it might be because Brexit dominated the news the past few years, glad its almost done with Grin
